We’ve come to the end of our 11 day birthday celebration celebrating 11 amazing years in publishing for the papercraft industry! Before we share all that we have in store for you today, we want to once again take a moment to thank you. Quite simply thank you for being the best readers around the globe. Your love, ongoing support and kindest comments mean the absolute world to all of us here at SCT. You are the reason we do what we do and we hope in the years to come you continue to join us on this creative journey. Capturing and documenting your memories on your scrapbook layouts, creating beautiful cards or designing beautiful projects all mean something. And they mean something to us. Without you our industry partners would not have someone to create beautiful products for, our retail stores would not have those beautiful products on their shelves and we would not have a beautiful magazine that our talented team puts together. You are important to us! If you are just joining us for the first time, be sure to start on Day 1 here!

With that being said, let’s celebrate the final day in our 11th birthday celebration with Art Director Cathy Zielske (who makes us look so good!) and our amazing friends from Stamp-n-Storage!

“Hi everyone! It’s Cathy Zielske here, art director for Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine, and today I’m sharing a few celebratory cards —and a free download—to end this fabulous 11th birthday party here on our blog.

Although I’ve worked in this amazing industry for over 15 years, my card making skills have left a little to be desired, and that’s putting it mildly. That said, I recently got my hands on a Big Shot from Stampin’ Up, a few Stitched Shapes Framelits dies and a Cross Stitch embossing folder from Taylored Expressions and holy craft! I have found a creative groove for making simple cards that make me happy.

Twocards

These two cards were inspired by the free Before We Go cut files from our Spring 2017 issue. I used the hatching chick and the flowers as the main graphic for each card.

Next, I designed sentiment squares that are sized perfectly to fit the 2.5-inch Framelit die. (Download my set of sentiments by clicking here.)

Bigshot1

I printed out the sentiments onto smooth white cardstock, then using my Stampin’ Up! magnetic platform, I carefully lined up the die on the crop marks as you see in the image above.

Bigshot2

Volia! A perfectly trimmed sentiment square ready to be dressed up and added to the card.

Diecutflower

Next I used the Spring issue cut files, sized them down and cut them out using my Silhouette Cameo.

Embossfolder

The final step was to emboss some white card stock to use on the front of both cards. I have never embossed anything in my life and I’m seriously so geeked about the possibilities!

Hatchling

I adhered the chick to the die cut sentiment panel, then trimmed and added the embossed paper to the front of a 4.25 x 5.5 card. I used a bit of dimensional adhesive to adhere the sentiment panel to the card.

Onecard

I used the same approach for my Glorious Day card, adding a few enamel dots from Close to my Heart to the centers of each flower.

Suffice to say, this birthday bash has awoken my inner card maker! I can’t way to explore more cards ideas this year! Happy birthday SCT! ~ Cathy Zielske

Thank you Cathy! We love your cards and the fact you’re rediscovered how fun and easy cards can be! We can’t wait to see more!
