Good morning SCT friends! So glad you could be here for Day 7 of our annual “12 Days of Holiday Giving!” We wait all year long to share these 12 days with you like kids on Christmas eve! Are you enjoying the team’s inspiration and all these giveaways? We have so much more to share today as Megan Hoeppner has created some stunning gift tags and our friends from Spellbinders and Jillibean Soup are here with some fabulous giveaways to celebrate the season too! Let’s hum along to our favourite song…”on the 7th day of SCT’s fabulous 12 Days of Holiday Giving, SCT shared with me…” (we take no responsibility for that song in your head now! 🙂 )
“You know what I love about gift tags? They can be so much more than just a way of stating who a gift is to and from. They can BE the gift. Here are a couple of DIY tag ideas and how to turn them into handmade gifts.
supplies PATTERNED PAPER, BOTTLE BRUSH TREES, DIE CUT SHAPES: Fancy Pants Designs; TWINE: Paper Source; PUNCH: We R Memory Keepers; ADHESIVE: Elmer’s, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L; Shipping Tag
Step 1: Trace a standard shipping tag onto the back of a sheet of patterned paper. I love using 6×6 paper pads for tags.
Step 2: Add a hole reinforcement sticker. I punched mine using the Reinforce Hole Punch from We R Memory Keepers—one of my favorite new tool releases this year! If you don’t have such a punch, you can also use hole reinforcement stickers to give your handmade tag a more polished feel.
TIP: Turn these small reinforcement shapes into sticker using a Xyron Sticker Maker, or turn to your tried and true glue stick. I love the bright red foil on some of the die cut shapes in this collection, so I punched one of my reinforcements from an extra.
Step 3: Add some machine stitching. For one tag, I stitched a doily in place. For the other, I stitched a paper band meant to hold a gift card in place. I actually stitched with the gift card already in place to make sure the paper was nice and snug.
Step 4: Create a tag that doubles as a tree ornament by attaching a small bottle brush tree to car die cut.
To do this, I first removed the tree from the die cut shape, but it didn’t go to waste. I used it on the gift card tag as a finishing touch.
I then attached a small bottle brush tree in its place. To ensure it stays put, I stitched it to the car using bakers twine.
Since the tree is so bulky, I had to double up my foam adhesive so the car would sit far enough away from the tag to allow room for the tree.
I now have a tag that doubles as a cute ornament, as well as a tag that doubles as a gift card holder.
Just like that, tags FOR gifts that double AS gifts. Tag! You’re it! What kind of tag ideas do you love to incorporate into your gift wrap? I’d love to read your ideas.
Happy holidays, friends!” ~ Megan Hoeppner
Thank you Megan! These tags are beautiful. Love the vintage feel that show the warmth of Christmas!
