2:00 pm World Card Making Day – Thank YOU!

2:00 pm World Card Making Day – Thank YOU!

This is a great hour that’s all about thank you – “a polite expression used when acknowledging a gift, service, or compliment, or accepting or refusing an offer.” Two kind little words that have so much packed into them. This hour we want to share some sweet thank you cards the team has created, and perfect for our Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend.

Virginia Nebel for Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine

Happy World Card Making Day! Don’t you just love a designated day to celebrate our passion for card making! I love making cards and my approach to creating a card design is definitely the ‘keep-it-simple’ approach.  I usually use less than 3 patterned papers, have one focal embellishment point, communicate one sentiment and then finish the card with a sprinkle of enamel dots.

One of my favourite paper techniques is to create a card front with two different patterns in triangles.  Just create two card fronts of the same size and cut one of them in half on the diagonal.  This gives the card a visual geometric interest with equal ‘showing off’ of pretty paper.
Hope you have crafty day and have a chance to make a card or two!” ~ Virginia Nebel

Lisa Dickinson Thank you for Scrapbook & Cards Today

We completely agree with Lisa Dickinson’s tip: “Store patterned paper scraps with similar color palettes together. When you need to make a quick card, just grab a few of the coordinated scraps and stitch to a card base!”

Thank you card by Susan Opel for Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine

Tips from our Editor-in-Chief, Susan Opel:

  • Find inspiration in the everyday! I loved the color combination on a friend’s top, so I snapped a picture with my phone. Kay’s beautiful floral top was my color inspiration for this graphic design.
  • Look at your dies in fresh ways! The rounded diamond shape is part of a die set that creates a dimensional bow, but by itself, it’s a graphic shape with big impact.

I am thankful for my three wonderful grandchildren, two sons and husband who has literally given me life! He came home from work one day and I was blue, not breathing and no pulse? He started CPR and called 911. By the time the ambulance arrived I was breathing again and had a slight pulse. They lost me a few times in the ambulance on the way to the hospital but after 3 weeks in the ICU I was sent home.
I am so thankful that my husband’s work had just done CPR training a week before this happened. I thank him every day for arriving home when he did and for having the knowledge to bring me back from the edge of death ?! Each day that I am on this Earth is a reason to be thankful.
Happy World Card Making Day and Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

This Thanksgiving weekend is a great time to be thankful and appreciate all the wonderful family and friends we have. I have made so many good souls since I have been papercrafting that I would never have known if I didn’t play with paper. Some are far flung around the world and we may never have the chance to meet face to face but we share our lives and our love of paper. And others I have met close by and not too far from my own community although we might never have taken the time to become friends if we hadn’t shared a common interest. I feel so blessed to know all of them!
Thank you for sharing these beautiful greetings and tips. Very good to have extra inspiration. 🙂

This year, I can celebrate with my beautiful grandson and my wonderful family and count all my blessings.
Fantastic cards, I might copy one for my plans tomorrow!

  126. Wendy October 8, 2017 at 10:33 am

As an inexperienced card maker, I am enjoying all the inspiration shared by so many paper artists. Many times, the technique asks for supplies I have yet to add to my craft room or at a skill level beyond me at this time. What I like about this series is its very simplicity. It showcases my level of cardmaking. I feel a little more confident that I can create something beautiful. I’m thankful for my grandchildren. They always make me laugh!
