This is a great hour that’s all about thank you – “a polite expression used when acknowledging a gift, service, or compliment, or accepting or refusing an offer.” Two kind little words that have so much packed into them. This hour we want to share some sweet thank you cards the team has created, and perfect for our Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend.
Happy World Card Making Day! Don’t you just love a designated day to celebrate our passion for card making! I love making cards and my approach to creating a card design is definitely the ‘keep-it-simple’ approach. I usually use less than 3 patterned papers, have one focal embellishment point, communicate one sentiment and then finish the card with a sprinkle of enamel dots.
One of my favourite paper techniques is to create a card front with two different patterns in triangles. Just create two card fronts of the same size and cut one of them in half on the diagonal. This gives the card a visual geometric interest with equal ‘showing off’ of pretty paper.
Hope you have crafty day and have a chance to make a card or two!” ~ Virginia Nebel

We completely agree with Lisa Dickinson’s tip: “Store patterned paper scraps with similar color palettes together. When you need to make a quick card, just grab a few of the coordinated scraps and stitch to a card base!”
………………..
Tips from our Editor-in-Chief, Susan Opel:
- Find inspiration in the everyday! I loved the color combination on a friend’s top, so I snapped a picture with my phone. Kay’s beautiful floral top was my color inspiration for this graphic design.
- Look at your dies in fresh ways! The rounded diamond shape is part of a die set that creates a dimensional bow, but by itself, it’s a graphic shape with big impact.

I am thankful for my three wonderful grandchildren, two sons and husband who has literally given me life! He came home from work one day and I was blue, not breathing and no pulse? He started CPR and called 911. By the time the ambulance arrived I was breathing again and had a slight pulse. They lost me a few times in the ambulance on the way to the hospital but after 3 weeks in the ICU I was sent home.
I am so thankful that my husband’s work had just done CPR training a week before this happened. I thank him every day for arriving home when he did and for having the knowledge to bring me back from the edge of death ?! Each day that I am on this Earth is a reason to be thankful.
