A Fun, Summer Blending Technique with Mindy Eggen

A Fun, Summer Blending Technique with Mindy Eggen

Hello friends! It’s Mindy Eggen here with you to share a fun summer card that can be used for any occasion!

I am a huge fan of ink blending and I thought what better way to kick off my summer cards than with a beautifully blended summer scene. I am going to create a beach and sunset for my scene today by doing some masking.

I was inspired to create a beach scene from the Good Vibes Only word die from Concord & 9th.

To create the beach, I took 2-inch Post-it tape and tore the top half off. I then laid that down on smooth white cardstock and ink blended using Gina K. Designs Kraft Ink with a blending brush. That torn edge gives the look of a beach.

I can remove that torn piece and bring in another strip of 2-inch post it tape to mask off my horizon line. Then I ink blended a light layer of blue using Sea Glass ink just coming right up to the beach but not blending into it. I’ll build up my water line by bringing in Blue Lagoon and Blue Denim.

After the bottom portion of my scene is done, I can mask that off, lining up the edge of my post it tape right up to the water line. For the sky I’m going to ink Sweet Corn, Tangerine TwistRed Velvet and Chocolate Truffle.

This blended background can be a bit overwhelming so I trimmed it down to 3″ x 4 1/4″ using a Rectangle Infinity Die and adding it to a white card front with double sided foam sheets.

I die cut the Concord & 9th “good vibes only” plate from three pieces of white cardstock and layered together for dimension. The word “vibes” is die cut from gold glitter cardstock because we needed some sparkle on this card.

I also cut the shadow die from vellum to soften the look and added this sentiment panel to my card front using liquid glue.

Doesn’t this just give you all the summer vibes? It does me, and I hope it inspires you to try out this ink-blending technique!
