Hello! I am very excited to be here on the blog today. I don’t know about you but I am SO ready for Spring.  Winter, it’s been fun (I guess) but time for you to go and the warmth and colors of spring to come.  So today I have some bright colorful spring cards to get you in the mood for warmer weather.

Lawn Fawn has just released some great new products for spring, and I used a ton of them to create both my cards today.  The new Rub-a-dub-dub set is just adorable with the bathtub image and the little ducks, but I wanted to share how it could be used for other types of cards.  So, of course, some spring ducklings seemed to fit the bill just perfectly.

Another thing I like to do is figure out ways to stretch my other products and use them in ways they were not originally been designed for.  For the Lucky Duck card, I used the new Bayou Backdrop die from Lawn Fawn to cut a green plaid from Perfectly Plaid Spring and did a little surgery on my die cut to create a different look.  I cut it down to fit a smaller rectangle in a portrait orientation and then added a die cut frame over top to hide the imperfections from “surgery.”

I really loved the asymmetrical look of the greenery from the Bayou Backdrop with the longer vines on the left side.  It really helped to balance the composition with the larger duck being on the right side.  I used the same green plaid from for the grass and layered a solid green behind it to help it stand out from the background.

I incorporated more spring plaid on the card base for more texture and to pull in some of the warm colors of these cute little ducks, which I colored with Copic markers on Neenah white cardstock. This card ended up with quite a bit of dimension due to the many layers, but I did use some thin foam adhesive to pop up the little duck in the front and the sentiment banner as well.

My second card uses the new Toadally Awesome stamp set from Lawn Fawn.

Again I used more of the Perfectly Plaid Spring collection, this time picking a pattern that I felt would really match the frogs.  The frogs are stamped with Lawn Fawn Jet Black ink on Neenah Solar White cardstock and colored with Copic markers to match the green in my paper. The coordinating dies came in very handy when cutting out all the pieces needed to create the little pop-up box scene.

I used the Lawn Fawn Scalloped Box Card Pop-up die to create this three-dimensional card.  To create this card you just need to cut two pieces and attach them to the corners. For me, I find it better to build my scene on the inside pieces before assembling the whole box.

Once I had each layer of my scene assembled I adhered one side of each insert to the short side of the box.  Then I removed the adhesive from the other side of the inserts as well as the other corner of the box, folded it over and closed it completely. This is a good way to assure that the card lays flat when it is collapsed to go into an envelope.  I find that trying to assemble it in the popped up position can cause things to be a little wonky and it may not flatten very well.

Finally, I added the side panels with my sentiment on the front flap and final part of my scene on the back.  I added a bit of Stickles to the wings of the “flies” in the background but other than that this card is simply die cut, colored images.  No embellishments or techniques needed to really make an impact with this unique pop-up shape.

I hope these two cards get you in the mood and ready for some spring crafting.  I know creating them certainly brightened my winter day.

Thanks so much for spending a little time with me today on the blog and I hope you have been inspired to create!
