Good morning SCT friends! Welcome to Day 3 of our September challenge. Today, design team members Nathalie DeSousa and Sheri Reguly are here to share with us their take on our “mood board” challenge! Here is the image we shared with them to inspire today’s creations.

“Hello everyone!  Nathalie here to give you a bit of inspiration and get you back on the groove of scrapbooking and documenting your memories.  Sometimes we all hit that block/wall that does not let us put together any concrete ideas to create a layout, and we need to have that little spark that ignites the creative juices. I love visual images,   and Mood Boards are an excellent way to pick ideas that go together to translate them into a page.  I used some of the images on the SCT Mood board to create this page:

I was immediately drawn to the contrasting colors in the mood board, the shine of the stars, the diamond shape of the quote and the texture in the images.   So, I decided to start with a grey color background ( the color in the shoes, and the wall behind the balloons), and add the diamond image by stitching them to the background.

Using a diamond shape image and a paper piercing tool, I created a stitching guide for the diamonds.  These were stitched with teal wax cord.

I layered and backed the pictures with papers and ephemera that had coral, navy, and teal accents – these are the colors that stand out on the mood board-.  The pictures were set in the middle of the stitched diamonds.

To bring the shine, I added glitter stars and sequin around the pictures and stitched diamonds, as well as build the title of the page with a  large gold die cut word.

I love how my little Goddaughter’s pictures are nicely framed with the colors and stitched diamonds, and then there is the gold accents!!  I hope this inspires you to use the mood board as a starting point for your next project.   The key is to focus on the images that catch your imagination!   So excited to see what you create!

XO,

Nathalie

Good morning, SCT friends! Sheri Reguly, here today.

I love using mood boards as inspiration for creating layouts. I find that it definitely helps guide me in a particular direction, as opposed to sometimes being overwhelmed by all of the countless possibilities.

Sometimes a certain portion will really catch my eye and dictate the direction that I want to go in, while other times, it may be a little bit of everything. That was definitely the case with the layout that I’ll be sharing with you today.

I have to admit that after I completed my layout, I turned back to the inspiration piece to see if there was any resemblance whatsoever. LOL So often, my design will start with an inspiration piece, but before long, it will take on a life of its own.

My first step was determining my background. I opted on a patterned paper that consisted of the same colors as the floral image within the inspiration piece.

From there, I incorporated little bits and pieces from essentially every square within the mood board. My photos introduced the soft shades of aqua, the thin strip of patterned paper along the bottom edge of my layout was inspired by the shades of navy, I included a large title using a script font, and even “split” the colors to resemble the gorgeous two-toned vases within the mood board. And of course, I had to add some flowers.

I used a dingbat font to add stars to one of my smaller photos, and typed the quote onto my other accent photo prior to printing. All that was left was to introduce a hint of chartreuse, a dash of grey, and a scalloped edge.
