Hello, everyone! It’s Jill, from Close To My Heart, and I’m back to share another one of my favorite creative ideas with you today!
Crafting with 3-D paper flowers is one of my all-time favorite things to do! These flowers are great for everything from scrapbook layouts and cards to all sorts of cute paper crafting projects.
As you can see, these flowers can be made in a variety of colors and sizes to suit the needs of your project. For this card, we made a few miniature flowers and arranged them on the card face for some three-dimensional fun. It’s almost like you’re sending a card and flowers at once!
They can also be used to dress up your scrapbook layouts, as you can see here. By including a few 3-D flowers, you can have your page elements literally pop off the surface of the paper!
No matter how you use them, 3-D paper flowers are a great way to help your creativity bloom. They bring a touch of floral freshness to any project and are super easy to make! To demonstrate this, I’ll show you how to make the flowers for this adorable wreath.
For this wreath, I used Close To My Heart’s Cricut® machine with the Close To My Heart Flower Market, Artistry, and Artbooking Cricut® collections. These digital collections offer a wide variety of options for different flowers, leaves, sentiments, and other beautiful designs. If you don’t have access to a Cricut® machine, you could also use metal dies to die cut your flowers.
If you’d like to create any of the projects pictured here and you already own these collections, you can download the Design Space file here! If you do not already own these Close To My Heart Cricut® collections, you will need to contact a Close To My Heart Consultant to purchase them. Once you have purchased the digital collections, you’ll be able to download the Design Space file for these projects.
To get started, you’ll want to select a few sheets of your favorite colored cardstock. It’s a good idea to make sure that the colors you choose are complementary but still offer a nice variety.
Next, you’ll cut and assemble your flowers. To demonstrate the assembly process, I’ll show you how to create one flower on the wreath. The process is fairly simple and you’ll use similar techniques to make each flower, so turn on your favorite show and craft away!
For this example, I used yellow and white cardstock to make a little succulent flower. I also used the center of a poppy to add a little extra flair.
Tip: If you are only using certain pieces of various flowers, you’ll want to make sure that you hide the cuts in the Layers panel for each piece except the one you want to cut.
Once you’ve cut out your pieces, you’ll want to take each piece and curl up the petals to achieve the 3-D look. I used a pen to gently curl the petals, but you can also use your fingers if you prefer!
After you’ve curled petals, you’ll use adhesive to attach each piece together. I would recommend using glue dots for this project. If you are using traditional glue, be sure to only use a tiny bit to prevent soaking. :)
Once you have all your flowers assembled, you’ll want to select a wreath frame (I used a metal wire one) and cut a cardstock base for the flowers to rest on. For this wreath, I only put flowers around part of it, so our cardstock base does not go all the way around the wireframe. Make sure to curve the cut to match the curve of your wreath base.
After you’ve got your cardstock base cut, you’ll attach it to your wreath base. Then, position and attach your flowers to the wreath.
Once you’ve got your flowers and leaves arranged and attached to your wreath, you can decorate them with enamel dots, gems, sequins, or any other embellishments you prefer! When you’re happy with your wreath, hang it on a door or wall for some perennial pizazz!
No matter what you use them for, 3-D paper flowers are a great addition to any project and are beautiful all year round!
