An Advent Calendar in Your Scrapbook!

Hi, everybody! It’s Jill, from Close To My Heart, and I’m so excited to share today’s post with you! The holiday season is right around the corner, and I’m definitely getting into the Christmas spirit! Today, I’ll be showing you how to create these adorable Christmas layouts with two of my favorite products—specialized mini page protectors called Flip Flaps™ and adhesive-backed Shimmer Trim.

For these layouts, I’ve used various papers from the Close To My Heart Holly Jolly paper packet.

Shimmer Trim is a great addition to any card or scrapbook page, and in this layout, I used this shiny Gold Shimmer Trim to embellish parts of the photos, background elements, and text for some eye-catching fun.

Shimmer Trim is adhesive-backed, so you won’t need to worry about how to attach it to your projects. Simply trim your desired length/width of Shimmer Trim with non-stick scissors, peel away the sheer backing, and apply it wherever you want some extra sparkle!

While we all love looking at all the lights and shiny Christmas decorations, sometimes it’s the things we don’t see that inspire the most excitement. After all, why else would we wrap presents, hide little treasures in stockings, or eagerly await the opening of each day on an Advent Calendar? I wanted to capture the same sense of anticipation in this second example layout. By using Flip Flaps™, I hid photos and journaling to create my own version of an Advent Calendar, with a hidden surprise for each day!

Tip: Using a fine-tip pen for your journaling is your best bet when you’re working in a small area. This helps to prevent your pen strokes from bleeding into each other and keeps your project looking crisp and precise.

Flip Flaps™ are basically miniature page protectors in and of themselves. Their primary function is to allow you to have more room in your layouts for photos and journaling. In this layout, however, I’ve used them to conceal photos and journaling for a little surprise each day. To attach Flip Flaps™, attach each one with clear tape or another adhesive and press it firmly to the page protector to ensure that it’s been fully attached.

Tip: When using Flip Flaps™ in your own scrapbooking, you’ll want to attach them on the outside of your main page protector so you can have easy access to lift each Flip Flap™.

These layouts are a great way to add some interactive and shimmery Christmas spirit to your layouts, and we can’t wait to help you incorporate these fun elements in your own artwork. We’ll be giving away a packet of 2″ x 2″ Flip Flaps™ and a roll of Gold Shimmer Trim to three lucky readers! Be sure to comment below by November 30! Good luck.
