When planning my card designs for a specific occasion, I focus on the recipient and what may bring a smile to their faces. My mom is a spring lover. Blooming flowers and fluttering butterflies brighten her days; she is happy and blabbery: oohing and ahhing over the beauty of it all. I knew she would love a window scene that incorporated both elements, and I remember loving the gorgeous lavender sprigs in the Pinkfresh Studio “Thinking of You” set.
I started by using the press plate that comes in the set and the Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil system to foil the images. I chose a mix of gold and rose gold foil to bring a subtle variety of colors to the card. It creates such a beautiful effect and adds so much interest! To ink-blend the sprigs, I used the coordinating stencils and Pinkfresh Studio ink pads in shades of purple and pink. Again, the difference is subtle, but it catches the eye.

Next, the butterflies. The April Pinkfresh Studio release is called “Good Times” and features the most beautiful, delicate butterfly designs. The images are a considerable size and, as you can see on my A2-sized card, take up quite a bit of space. I picked two butterflies: a side one that fits perfectly in the top left portion of the card, and a frontal one that reveals the dainty details of the design. I went with light colors to enhance the spring vibes of the card.

Once I had all my elements ready, I created an arch-shaped panel from light blue cardstock, which I then framed with an arch border for more definition. The arch shape gives the idea of a window without the actual elements of a window, if it makes sense.
While trying different arrangements on my card, I realized I didn’t have much space left for the sentiment I wanted to incorporate, so I heat-embossed it with gold embossing powder on a strip of vellum. This is a great trick because the see-through element of the vellum allows you to cover larger areas while still leaving the background visible. The sentiment here is from an older Altenew set called “Stunning Cosmos.” It’s still available, but you can use any other sentiment to achieve similar results. I glued the sentiment between the arch border and the panel after adhering the lavender sprigs to my background.

A few self-adhesive gems finished the card.
I hope this post has given you some ideas for your next Mother’s Day card. Check out the Pinkfresh Studio website for these and many more fabulous products that will help you create amazing designs in no time! Thank you for stopping by, and see you soon.
