Hello, fabulous card making aficionados! It’s Tina here from Cards & Coffee Time, super excited to be back on the SCT Magazine blog to share a creative way to use your embossing folders. I’m all about using embossing folders for my backgrounds, and today we’re taking it to the next level with what I like to call the Cut & Quarter Technique. It’s versatile, easy to do and it works with any size card base and any shape, whether it’s circles, diamonds, squares, or more.

Supplies | Spellbinders: All Wrapped Up 3D Embossing Folder, Argyle Plaid 3D Embossing Folder, Luna the Seahorse Etched Dies, Garden Buddies Etched Dies, On Cloud Nine Etched Dies, Perfect Touch Rectangles & Tag Etched Dies, Everlasting Circles Etched Dies, You Make Me Smile Sentiments Stamp & Die, Mini Blending Brushes, Guillotine Trimmer, Snowdrift Cardstock; Hero Arts: Classic Vellum Layering Paper, Pinkfresh Studio Jewels: Glacier, Clear Drops: Iridescent, Full Size Ink Pads (I used, Marigold, Grassy Knoll, Calico White); Scrapbook Adhesives: EZ Runner Grand, Thin 3D Foam Squares White Mix

Today, I am having some fun with wonky stripes and rectangles. You don’t need anything fancy, just grab a paper trimmer (or scissors), some printer paper, and colored cardstock. Cut your shape four times, then chop them into quarters and stick them onto the printer paper. Put them back in their original shape, emboss and voilà! That’s all there is to it!

I’m using the Spellbinders 3D Argyle Plaid and 3D All Wrapped Up Embossing Folders for both cards. To get even more creative, try embossing with layers! Creating a background scene or panel with different embossing folders takes it up another notch. Don’t be afraid to mix them up!

Spellbinders has a huge variety of 2D and 3D embossing folders that are 5.5″ x 8.5″, the perfect size for any size card. These two cards were not only easy to make but also a lot of fun, especially with just a few basic supplies.

I hope this post has brought some inspiration to your day. Wishing you a lovely and crafty day ahead!  Crafty hugs!
