Hi there, crafty friend! I’m Laura Evangeline from LauraEvangeline.com, and I’m so delighted to invite you in for a peek into my crafty space here in middle Tennessee.
About seven years ago we moved from Italy back to the USA. Like many others, we brought along our beloved Ikea furniture collection, and it suited us quite well for many years. Room by room we slowly upgraded things in our new home. Last fall, it finally came time for my office!
The first thing I tackled was purging! It’s true. You cannot organize clutter. It was a beast to get through, but I was ruthless and determined to create a purposeful space that kept me organized and inspired.
After purging and making a detailed storage plan, we went to work on the closet. The Ikea Alex desk drawers I already had made for the perfect foundation. They hold items I don’t reach for routinely like gift wrap, notions, and altered art supplies. The counter above them was built at my waist height, so I can easily reach the sewing machine for quick card stitching with the space underneath serving as a garage for other bulky tools.
The next shelves up were then spaced to house organizing units I previously invested in to fit the cube shelving I had. Tucked away at the very top are storage cases which hold seasonal craft items I pull down only once a year or so.
Once the closet was sorted, I worked on the shelves and drawers. The space here was planned so I could reach as much as possible with out needing to get up for something on the other side of the room. When seated, I can swivel back and forth easily between the computer and work table. With 360 degrees of drawer access, you’ll often find me sitting in the middle surrounded with every drawer wide open looking like a happy baby bouncing in their activity saucer.
I think my favorite drawer might be the one that houses a collection of mini ink pads. Ink swatch sheets are also kept here, so it’s an easy grab & go deal. It just makes me so happy when I open it.
For the open shelving I wanted to ensure everything was both as practical and inspiring as it could be. To keep things playful yet clean, I chose white & clear storage pieces with everything else being sorted into rainbow order. The color pencil and marker storage is a great example. They’re beautifully displayed in containers I can easily pick up, move to my desk when needed, and back again with little effort or fuss.
Another piece of shelf eye candy is the little Scrapbook.com binder. It’s perfectly sized for organizing my entire stencil collection with room to spare.
From this view you can see where the closet sits on the other side of the room. On the wall I face when crafting is a TV where I watch YouTube videos, home makeovers, and maybe a junky housewife reality show or two. (Don’t tell anyone I told you that, okay?)
Under the TV is a cabinet I store small gifting items and candies in since I absolutely love creating gift packaging and tags. To the right of that, is a chair holding my puppy collection! It’s really the most important storage piece of all, right?

The counter above the Alex units is genius. My binned stamps and colored cardstock are on top of my Alex units, but bending over to get them isn’t ergonomic, so I sit in a wheeled chair. That’s fine, but the added counter over them increases the surface space wonderfully.
It’s amazing how lifting up the work surface has made such a difference for my back pain. I hope you can find a method to do something similar.

I loved this so much that I went and checked out more of the process on Laura’s blog. We have been working on my craft room, and I really like the clean white look of many of the IKEA pieces. We just had hardwood flooring installed, so I had to move everything out, but it was a good opportunity to purge, and reorganize. Love having hardwood floors — so easy to clean!
Moving out of my craft room was such a beast, but so worth it. I would love to have hardwood floors someday. I bet you can really get groovy in there now!!! :-)
Beautiful room Laura! I have a similar wall set up in my room, very inspired by your organization! 6th photo down from top, may I ask where your white 12×12 paper holder is from? Those are not easy to find in that shape!
Thank you! Yes, I found those in an online craft shop. I have them in a couple sizes and materials. I just posted a resource list for everything in the photos on my blog too hoping it would be helpful. :-)

Room is gorgeous…… I have a question…. I was told you shoud have your inks flat….I see yours are at an up angle…. does it really matter how they set :)
I was definitely told the same thing years ago as well. I stopped storing my pads upside down after an ink manufacturer told me I’m just wasting my energy flipping pads over all the time. He said most inks we use are designed to be suspended and wick into in the pad material, so no matter which way they are stored the ink will continue to even itself out across the pad felt or foam. The only reason ink would pool would be if there was too much ink in the pad, so it had no where else to go. I store my pads leaning like this now so I can see them all in a pretty little row. :-)

Such a beautiful space. I painted my space a beautiful green, not wanting what I thought would be boring white walls…all I ever saw growing up. While I love my green, I realize now it makes the room very dark. Thanks for sharing your space and organization ideas!
