We had an opportunity to chat with Cynthea Sandoval, the mastermind behind one of our favourite companies Doodlebug Designs! Known for their fun colours, sweet designs, and ever-expanding product line, we just had to know more about them!
How did you arrive at the name Doodlebug?
We put a lot of thought into the name of our company and wanted something that reflected our personality, creativity and the cute style that we love so much. My dad used to always call me a “doodler” so doodlebug just seemed to be the perfect fit.
Tell us a little about Doodlebug.
Doodlebug: When people think of doodlebug they think of color. The bright, fun, colors make people happy. We hear it again and again at shows and from our customers. That is who we are and who we have always tried to be. It is what we love. Even our offices are painted in our bright color palette.
Doodlebug is known for its colours!
Tell us a little about the process of choosing colours. Our colors have always been some of my personal favorites! I love bright clean color. This part was easy…I just picked what I loved!!
Has doodlebug had some consistent colours since day one?
Absolutely! We are very proud to have stayed true to our twelve core colors: Cupcake, Bubblegum, Ladybug, Tangerine, Bumblebee, Limeade, Swimming Pool, Blue Jean, Lilac, Lily White, Bon Bon and Beetle Black. We do add some different colors and shades to change things up a bit, but you can be sure to find a few core colors included as well. This makes it very easy for new product to coordinate with existing lines.
Do you remember the first paper line doodlebug released?
Can you show us a sample? Yes, they were “Itty Bitty Bugs & Dragonfly Plaid” and “Bloomin’ Bugs & Tropical Plaid”. We were one of the first companies to give our products whimsical names and also one of the first that had coordinating basics to mix and match with our themes.
How long does it usually take to create a line and just quickly what is the process?
It can take from a few weeks to sometimes months, depending on the products included. We typically gather our house design team to share ideas and colors and inspire each other and then go from there. There is so much to be considered with each new line, but all and all, this is the funnest part of what we do!!
What is your most favourite line ever? Why?
I have to pick just one!?! I would have to say that ladybug garden is my favorite line at the moment. I love the cheerfulness it brings and it makes me happy every time I look at it! Sweet, happy little things are everywhere you look!
Where do you see doodlebug in 10 years?
We are so grateful to have been a part of this industry for the past 10 years. We have been blessed with tremendous growth and made many friends that we cherish deeply. In the next 10 years, we hope to be able to still be doing what we love. Creating whimsical, happy products that make people smile and having lots of fun doing it!
Is your house as bright and cheerful as doodlebug papers?
Yep! I have always loved color. You’ll find bright dishes, pillows, furniture, that are all doodlebug colors….they just make me happy! I still cant figure out what colors to paint the walls though….
