Our new spring issue will be available on Friday at 10:00 am, and we wanted to use this week leading up to the issue reveal to inspire you to create using some fun challenges, with an added perk: GIVEAWAYS! So let’s get started with a mood board challenge and creative team member, Meghann Andrew!

…………………….

Hello SCT friends! It’s Meghann Andrew here today, and I am so excited to start off Challenge Week here on the SCT blog! Challenges are such a fun way to get creative while having a starting point, and today’s challenge is all about this amazing spring mood board:

I was so inspired by a few things on this mood board, especially the colors, the artsy images, the organic lines in the painting and the textural differences. I took all of these inspiration pieces and used them to create this layout, using the Close to My Heart These Are My People Collection as my 8-1/2” x 11” layout base.

Supplies | Patterned paper, stickers, sequins: Close to My Heart These Are My People Collection; Stickers: Simple Stories Hey Crafty Girl, Crate Paper; Chipboard stickers: American Crafts (balloon), Studio Calico (pencils); Layered stickers: American Crafts (camera, rosette); Puffy sticker: Fancy Pants; Washi tape: Studio Calico; Vellum die cuts: Studio Calico; Adhesive: Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L; Other: DMC embroidery floss

The wonderful Close to My Heart These Are My People Collection fit this mood board perfectly, and I started with the pink polka dot paper inspired by the big, circular balloon image. I layered my photo with other patterned papers, inspired by the board’s gorgeous colours.

My title had to be “love these people,” using the Close to My Heart These Are My People stamp. It was the perfect sentiment to go along with this photo of myself with my fellow Crop & Create friends! My next step was to add a painterly-looking sticker from the These Are My People sticker sheet, which looked so similar to the glaze lines on the pot in the image. This created a shelf to not only hold my photo, but allowed me to create a line of horizontal embellishment that fit the theme of my page, but also included several different textures, just like in the image.

A mixture of cardstock stickers, chipboard, vellum, crepe paper, puffy stickers, and embroidery floss made up my row of embellishment, all inspired by shapes, colors, and textures in the mood board image.

I just loved adding all of the little elements with all of the textures playing off of each other. I even looped lengths of embroidery floss, adhering them underneath my embellishments and securing them with large 3-D foam squares of dimensional adhesive—reminding me of the skeins of yarn in the mood board image. I had to include a chipboard balloon, based off of the image, and I tied a length of embroidery floss to it, letting it hang down the side of my photo.

I loved creating with this mood board challenge, and I hope it inspires you to play with different colours, textures and shapes on your next creation!
