Hello SCT fans! It’s Lisa Dickinson here today, creating a designer recipe layout using this delicious mix of products:
- 3 or more patterned papers
- 2 photos — one landscape, one portrait
- 3 die cuts
- 1 soft embellishment
- 1 hard embellishment
- 1 cut file
I love using a recipe formula to start a page because it spells out exactly what I’ll need to complete the design (and the result is a balanced mixture of color, pattern, and texture!) Here’s the page that resulted from my recipe:
Supplies | SCT Delivered Garden Party Kit; Cardstock: Bazzill Basics; Patterned paper: Pink Paislee, Bo Bunny, Jillibean Soup, Simple Stories; Die cuts: American Crafts, Jillibean Soup; Other: buttons, twine
I began my design with the heart circle cut file (an exclusive bonus in the SCT Delivered Garden Party Kit!) and I knew it would be a great place to incorporate all of the patterned papers. Since my photos contained lots of bright colors, I selected papers with similar rainbow hues and filled many of the negative spaces in the die-cut with these colorful prints.
To incorporate my journaling into the design, I wrapped it around the outer edge of the circle cut file, a technique that’s easy to do in most word processing programs. After measuring the diameter of the cut file, I drew the same sized circle in the software and typed my text to fit along that line.
The title block was a great place to incorporate both the hard embellishment (the acrylic title found in the Garden Party Kit) and soft embellishment, like the baker’s twine tie around it, and I love the resulting mix of textures and dimension. To complete the title, I cut the word “neon” using the font Weather Sunday in a bright polka dot paper.
The three die cuts I chose were these bright flowers that fit the color scheme and also reinforced the girly theme of my page. I stitched buttons to the center of each for added dimension and shine!
To balance my title block in the lower right part of the page, I wanted to add a small embellishment cluster in the opposite corner. A few die cuts, tags, and buttons create a grouping that helps give a “starting point” for the eye and lead it through the design.
Next time you’re stuck for ideas on how to start a page, try a designer recipe to get cooking! And don’t forget to grab one of the new SCT Delivered Garden Party Kits that contains many of the products I used to complete this recipe. Happy Scrapping!
~ Lisa
