Hello, everyone! It’s Meghann Andrew with you, and I am always in awe of the projects selected for the Inspiration Gallery in each SCT Magazine issue. In the Winter issue, I was especially drawn to this beautiful non-traditional Christmas card created by Elodie:

I loved the stars, and the lines of coordinating patterned paper that she used to connect them to the right side of the card. I also loved that she added small embellishments around the stars, and added a bit of sparkle with sequins, as well as some texture with paint droplets. I decided that I would let her design inspire me to create a new 8-1/2″ x 11″ layout that documents a favorite family holiday photo.

So fun, right? This layout, created with the new My Mind’s Eye Tutti Frutti collection, brings all of the best parts of our vacation together in one place, to record a pretty family photo taken on the last night of our trip. I started out by selecting the beautiful blue and green floral pattern to frame my white cardstock. The colors worked perfectly with our family photo. Next, I chose large die cuts and chipboard stickers that felt right for our Mexican holiday: the large flower matched my patterned paper background, the citrus drink reminded me of sipping cold drinks by the pool, and the large leaves were reminiscent of our tropical location. I selected matching patterned papers from the 6″ x 6″ paper pack to coordinate with the elements, just like Elodie did with her coordinating stars.

To balance all of that color on the right, I layered my photo with two different patterns and adhered with dimensional adhesive. Below the photo, I used border strip stickers and washi tape to add even more pattern and bright color, and topped my photo with fun photo corners on the left side. The sticker, “life is good” served as my title, and added my journaling in strips below.

I decided to embellish with small, coordinating elements, the same with that Elodie did by adding small flowers next to her stars. I had lots of
fun adding small stickers, enamel dots and metal brads to my patterned paper strips. I loved that Elodie also added paint splatters, but as I’m
not so confident in my splattering ability, I decided to add small, black stamped stars and asterisks instead, all around my embellishment groupings.

I LOVE the way that this layout turned out, all because I was inspired by Elodie’s beautiful card! I created a video while creating, so that you can see my process in putting this layout together! Grab a cup of tea and watch how I took Elodie’s inspiration and made it something new:

Thanks so much for watching, and happy creating!
