One of my favorite ways to approach page design is to divide & conquer! For this layout, I’ve divided my page visually with two different background papers, a bold aqua stripe that consumes about 2/3 of my background, and a more understated grid pattern for the remaining third. Atop the grid paper, I aligned three square photos in a column, which adds weight to the right side of the page and helps balance the bold stripes. Then I layered lots of tags along the left side. One tag contains my journaling, another features the title, and lots of smaller ones help add detail and interest to the design. Notice that all the tags are lined up on the right side along the edge of the striped paper, with the exception of one – the pink “love” banner. This tag runs across the dividing line and helps connect the photos to the elements on the left.

The “divide & conquer” method is perfect for using those big, bold patterned papers that might otherwise overwhelm your page. Pair them with a simple pattern, or even plain card stock for a page with lots of impact!
