I’m always finding inspiration for my scrapping in unusual places – home decor magazines, style blogs and even roadside signs! Of course, other forms of art like painting, quilting, and weaving are always a great place to find creative techniques that can be incorporated into your scrapping. Lately, I’ve been inspired by sewing/stitching projects like these:

Stitching is such a great way to add subtle texture to a scrapbook page, so I wanted to try it on a page. I used my sewing machine to add imperfectly stitched circles behind my embellishment clusters:

Not only does the stitching add another layer of dimension to the page, but the stitched circles also create a background area for the embellishments and helps the eye see them as one unit, rather than many small pieces.

Because I am definitely not a skilled seamstress, my stitching is far from perfect, but I love the slightly wonky and handmade touch it adds to my background. Don’t worry about neatness and embrace the imperfection!

And if you don’t have a sewing machine (and don’t want to attempt hand-stitching), this same look could be achieved by drawing the design with a pen or by gluing twine in a similar circular pattern.

So if you’re looking for inspiration or a creative nudge, be sure to look beyond scrapbooking and into other forms of art as well! Inspiration can be found in so many places!
