Hello friends! It’s Nathalie with you today, sharing a new layout created using the beautiful February 2020 SCT Sampler!
Supplies| February 2020 SCT Sampler; Bazzill: cardstock, vellum; Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L: dimensional adhesive, permanent tape runner; mini glue dots; Kaisercraft: metal die; EK Success: circle cutter; other: DMC embroidery floss; Citrus Twist Kits stamp; Muji pen
February is the month of Love, and what better way to record those love-filled memories than to document them with the SCT Sampler? This month’s little package of joy has a colorful and versatile mix of papers, ephemera, and stickers along with an exclusive acrylic word that will help you document cherished memories.
To create a focal point for the page, I started by using a circle cutter to cut a 6” circle from the center of the cardstock. At the same time, I used a pencil to draw three concentric circles, 1/8” apart from each other around the cut circle. I then used a paper piercing tool to create a stitching guide by poking holes through the drawn circles. At this point, I put my audiobook on and used embroidery floss to backstitch the circles. The colors match the papers and the stitching adds a bit of texture to the page.
I have so many memories of my daughter and goddaughter playing together when they were little, and I just pulled a few of these photos, sized them to fit 2.75” x 2.5” and printed them in black and white. I set them on a piece of vellum on a horizontal layout so that they span across the cut circle. The translucency of the vellum helps to create a bit of separation from the background, adding to the dimension of the page.
I chose to back the empty circle space with the Pink Paislee Bloom Street Paper 4, and since backstitching added dimension to the back and front of the layout, a bit of foam adhesive was used to attach the paper to the back of the circle. Then, I attached the vellum strip of pictures to the background, strategically hiding a few foam dots behind the pictures.
To bring movement and color to the page, I used a flower metal die to cut flowers from a few of the SCT Sampler papers. I used a knitting needle to curl the edges of the flowers, which makes them more dimensional and helps to create the illusion of them zig-zagging across the page and pictures. I used a few of the ephemera and stickers from the sampler to complete the clusters.
I just loved how easy it was to combine the two paper collections featured in this month’s sampler. So, to create my title, I used the large ephemera floral cluster from the Doodlebug Love Notes collection with the sticker and butterfly ephemera from the Pink Paislee Bloom Street collection, then added the exclusive acrylic word.
I just love this month’s SCT Sampler and I still have plenty of material left to create another project or two! I hope this inspires you to pull your February Sampler (they should be arriving at your doorsteps now!) to create a new project of your own. Gorgeous!
I absolutely love this layout Nathalie! Did you use a circle paper piercer? If so, what company has this?
This layout is gorgeous. I love stitching added to a page. It brings so much. Thank ou.
Whimsical layout, thanks for sharing.
Hi…I used an EK Tools circle cutter to cut the circle and pencil in the lines, then poked the holes with a paper piercing tool (a thumb tack works, too). Let me know if that helps
Lovely!
So, so cute! Love the circle and flowers.
