I did go trick or treating as a child. My mom used to make all of my costumes. My favorite costume was when I went as a slice of pizza.

We don’t celebrate Halloween in our culture . But , after we moved to the US , it gives us immense joy to be part of the celebrations . My kids love choosing the outfits ( wonder woman and robin ) this year .
    Happy Halloween everyone !!

  5. Jean Marmo October 31, 2016 at 3:21 pm

Such a cute collection and project! The one costume I can remember was a hobo – old black suit jacket and stick with a bandana tied to it. I am showing my age here. Don’t know if many of you will know what that was:)

  6. Mary Holshouser October 31, 2016 at 3:22 pm

I went trick or treating but it’s been so many years ago
that I have no idea what I dressed in. My mother
made all of my costumes so I do know they were
    spectacular.
    Love the collection of papers.
    thanks
    Happy Halloween

HANDS DOWN FAVORITE COSTUME…AS A COLLEGE FRESHMAN, A BIG DUCK!
A BILLED BASEBALL CAP WITH EYES ON IT PULLED DOWN LOW ON MY FACE, A WHITE FLUFFY SWEATSHIRT WITH “WINGS” AND YELLOW RUBBER GLOVES (LIKE YOUR MOM USED FOR WASHING DISHES) STRETCHED OVER MY SHOES TO LOOK LIKE WEBBED FEET! YES, AS A COLLEGE FRESHMAN WITH FRIENDS IN MUNCIE, INDIANA…I DID NOT EVEN GO TO COLLEGE THERE, BUT STAYED AT A FRIENDS’ PLACE ON HALLOWEEN, WE JUST HAD TO GO OUT AND HAVE SOME BIG KID FUN AROUND THE BALL STATE CAMPUS TOWN!

  9. Ruby Marchand October 31, 2016 at 3:27 pm

Happy Halloween. I went Trick or Treating many long years ago. That was the age where there were no bought costumes. We had to use our imaginations and whatever we could find at home. The ghost was my easiest costumes. My God mother dressed me up one of the nights as a Spanish Lady. That was fun. So we had fun and creativity in this night. Thanks for the chance to win.

  10. Chris Baker Cox October 31, 2016 at 3:33 pm

We went trick-or-treating every year when I was a child. I loved dressing up. I don’t remember too many costumes, and can’t say I had a favorite…but I was a bum, a ghost, and I think I had a Casper the Friendy Ghost costume one year too. My favorite costume of my daughter’s was a carrot! I asked her what she wanted to be and she wanted to be a carrot. She was an adorable carrot! πŸ™‚

  11. Janet Cobb October 31, 2016 at 3:37 pm

Yes, I trick or treated with my siblings and uncle, who was between my older sister and me. My favorite costume was a princess. I wore a beautiful pink gown that my mother wore as maid of honor for her cousins wedding. It had covered buttons all down the back, with long sleeves that had the covered buttons at the bottom. I truly felt like a Princess that night!

  12. bette October 31, 2016 at 3:41 pm

Great prize! We always dressed up in old farmer clothes (actually dads) – rubber boots and binder twine ; plaid shirts and mixed coco to paint our faces. Our faces would get really itchy once the coco dried – we always had lots of fun – good memories, just wish I had pictures of my younger years like I do now with my own family.

  31. marilyn October 31, 2016 at 6:45 pm

Thanks for the chance to win the cute Halloween prize. I too went Trick-or-Treat as a kid, usually as a tramp. I remember one house had homemade taffy apples where we went first–along time ago! Happy Halloween!

  32. Shelley P October 31, 2016 at 6:56 pm

Favourite costume that was handed down through my family was the white sheet that belonged to my grandmother. She wore the ghost costume, then it was passed onto my mom, my aunts, and then me. Then I was a ghost, then re-purposed the sheet into a white fairy costume. The white sheet was passed onto me which I re-used again for my child’s ghost costume and then to become Luke Skywalker. The white sheet was the simplest costume but in my childhood eyes it was like a precious commodity.

  33. J. Lee October 31, 2016 at 7:05 pm

  39. Carol October 31, 2016 at 8:05 pm

I loved treat or treating as a child…my siblings and I would come home with a pillow case of great treats that we could not wait to eat. But Mom always had to pull out all the apples first so she could make a big batch of fresh applesauce. My go to costume was a Hobo. Simple to put over my snowsuit on cold northern Ontario Halloween nights.

  40. Roxanne October 31, 2016 at 8:06 pm

  50. Colleen Flathers October 31, 2016 at 9:40 pm

Went trick or treating as a kid, but all we were ever allowed to do, was wear those old plastic masks. Couldn’t breath or see out of them. Fast forward many years, I made all of my daughter’s outfits. My favorite was the year they went as Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy. Little one wouldn’t keep the wig on however so carried it in one hand and her pail in the other. So cute.

    Happy Halloween ?
I agree, Doodlebug collections are scary cute!
Getting into costumes was not easy for me, alas
I still enjoyed the experience. As an adult, I have dressed up on occasion, but making cards for people is a good substitute.
    Boo-tiful inspiration
    Cheers

  64. Arianna Barbara November 1, 2016 at 5:14 am

I hope you had spent a magic Halloween! I’m Italian and I didn’t do Trick and Treat when I was a kid. We have Carnival (Carnevale) on February or March (it changes every year) and children a lot of adults use to dress up and organize a lot of parties. When I was child I loved dress up as Cinderella! <3
Thank you so much for this great chance to win!

  65. Laura Gauthier Turcotte November 1, 2016 at 6:25 am

    Loving the doodlebug designs!

  73. Shannon November 1, 2016 at 11:54 am

For sure the Doodlebug sistas know how to bring a smile to everyone’s face. What a fun collection, thanks for the chance to win. My Mom was the best crafter/seamstress; she could make something out of nothing. My absolute favorite costume made by her was a popcorn ball made from an old white sheet with every 2 inches or so cloth covered styrofoam chips sewn by hand on to the sheet. Sadly, there are no pics to document this only my still solid memory.

  74. Cary Ann Lombardo November 1, 2016 at 12:35 pm

  78. Karen Lingel November 1, 2016 at 1:36 pm

Where I grew up in Montana, there was always snow on the ground by Halloween. So you’d get a great costume, and then you’d have to wear your heavy winter coat over it. One year my sister and I got really heavy tiger-striped footie pajamas, so we used those as our costumes. The pajamas were big enough that we could wear our coats underneath the costume, and present a full tiger exterior to the world. Grrrrah! Thanks for the opportunity to win.

  79. Linsey November 1, 2016 at 2:07 pm

When I was a kid, my favorite Halloween costume ever was the year my Grandma handmade a 50’s poodle skirt for me and my cousin and we went as 50’s girls at a sock hop! Nowadays, it would be a zombie-morphed 50’s girl, lol!!! I always loved being a really ugly wicked witch too because my Mom did my makeup really good!! Thanks for the fun memories and for this fun giveaway!!! πŸ˜€ Happy Halloween!! xoxo

WOW it has been a while since I went Trick or Treating, but it was always fun and we always got tons of goodies. Now I have to wait and see what goodies are left over.LOL. Our costumes were nothing like today’s awesome outfits. We just wore a disguise and put on some funny clothes, often older brothers. 93. Dorina D November 2, 2016 at 3:56 pm

What a fun giveaway. Never went trick or treating. Trick or Treating wasn’t allowed in our community (and still isn’t) when I was growing up. However, the community hosted (and still hosts) a GREAT BIG Halloween Party with lots of games, costume parades by ages. We all got treat bags filled with goodies, bobbed for apples, cake walks, etc. and if we won, we got a dime or quarter. (you can tell it was a long time ago). My favorite costume was my going as a TV set with rabbit ear antenna and John Wayne’s picture on the “screen”. However, my sister almost always one 1st place for her scarecrow costume, every year. And yes, this was back in the 60’s & 70’s.

  94. Linda Roy November 2, 2016 at 6:44 pm

I did go trick or treating as a child every year. My mom made most of our costumes and eventually had a costume shop for many years as she accumulated so many others and made over the years. One of my favourites was a sandwich, not easy to move in, but was a winner at school as was my peanut vendor customs one year too.

  99. Kathy Northup November 3, 2016 at 12:39 pm

i am such a fan of doodle bug! And this is an example why! Thank you for the opportunity to win.
My most memorable costume…nothing exciting, but it was my first halloween since coming to Canada and I dressed up as a witch…it was the fact that i get to pick something that i normally wouldn’t wear is the best part! Thanks for the opportunity to win.

We lived in a small town where you knew everybody, walking the streets going door to door. Married with children and now grandchildren we live in the country and it is a little more work in and out of the car but love the expressions on their faces when they get another colorful bag, doesn’t matter what’s in it!

best year I remember (partly as my mom took a picture) was I was a witch (homemade costume) and my friend was Friar Tuck. I do remember the homemade fake fur grey mouse costume my mom made for me as well but not sure there were pictures of it.

Loved trick or treating as a kid … my favourite costume was a pirate with a patch and a plastic knife and some “gold coins” made from construction paper. Worn over my snowsuit of course!

Not only do I love Halloween, but my youngest granddaughter has a Halloween birthday so it’s even more fun. I always trick or treated as a child and my mother made a handmade costume for me every year. I carried on the tradition with my own kids. My favorite costume was a butterfly, with wings made out of wire coat-hangers and tissue paper. My mom was so creative!

My two little girls would have a blast with these cute Halloween craft goodies and of course I loved trick or treating! I still love taking my girls out and even dressing up. My favorite costume as a child was when I was Mrs. Potato Head.

I’m a little late on this but Happy Halloween! I used to love Halloween and really enjoyed going out trick-or-treating with my friends. I have a terrible memory and can’t recall most of my cosutmes but I do remember one year going out as an “old” man with a face mask that was pretty cool. I loved getting any kind of chocolate bar–and we used to get the big ones!!!!! Thanks for the chance to win!
