Today we welcome our Challenge Week guest designer to the blog: Channin Pelletier! We just love scrolling through Channin’s Instagram feed—it’s full of colour, gorgeous, clean card designs, and tons of inspiration featuring products from some of our favourite manufacturers. Let’s take a look at the challenge Channin is sharing with us this week: a gorgeous autumn color combination!

…………………………

Hello crafty friends! It’s Channin here and I am so thrilled and honored to be guesting today here at Scrapbook & Cards Today during this Fall Issue Challenge Week!

I LOVE challenges, they are actually what lured me into cardmaking in the first place! Challenges often get me thinking outside of my box and have me trying new techniques and/or color combos which always sparks my creativity! And this month’s beautiful color challenge photo was no different! Take a look:

Today I’ve created a fall interactive spinner card featuring some adorable products from Honey Bee Stamps! This card is actually a very easy interactive card to put together and is brought to life thanks to this month’s gorgeous color palette.

Supplies | Honey Bee Stamps: Hedgehugs Stamp Set, Hedgehugs Honey Cuts, Sweet Stacks Circle Honey Cuts, Cable Knit Sweater Background Stencil, Bee Creative Intense Black Ink, Bee Creative Precision Tip Glue; Hero Arts: Hero Hues Dove White Cardstock, Hero Hues Pebble Cardstock; Other: stamp positioning tool or acrylic block, Copic markers, die-cutting machine, ink blending tools/brushes; Pumice Stone Distress Ink, string, Scotch tape, scissors, paper trimmer

To create this card, I first stamped several images from the Hedgehugs stamp set onto white cardstock in Intense Black Ink. I stamped the set of four leaves five times each, the forward-facing hedgehogs twice and their backs only once. Next, I Copic colored all the images, except for the second forward-facing hedgehogs which I only colored their feet and the bottom third of their pumpkin because most of this image will later be covered by their backs. Here are the colors I used to coordinate with the challenge image:

Hedgehog:

  • Quils: E31, E35, E57
  • Body: W-1, E43
  • Cheeks/Ears: RV11x

Leaves/Pumpkin:

  • Orange: Y38, YR07, R05
  • Mauve: R85, R59
  • Blue: B45, B97
  • Teal: BG23, BG49

Once I finished coloring the images I die cut them out with the matching dies. Next, I adhered a piece of string approximately 7” long between the two forward-facing hedgehog die cuts, but with the die cuts placed back to back with the string sandwiched between. I then adhered the hedgehog backs to the partially-colored forward facing pair and set them aside.

Next, I ink-blended over the Cable Knit Background Stencil and a 4 1/8” x 5 3/8” panel of gray cardstock with Pumice Stone Distress Ink.

I then die cut the front of an A2 top-folding white card base and the gray panel with a circle die approximately 3 1/4” in diameter to create a window that lines up perfectly on both. I did this by centering the gray panel over the front of the opened card base then placed the circle die on top and ran them both through my die cutting machine at once. Because of the thickness of the stacked cardstocks, the die will mostly like only cut through the gray panel and not the card base, but the card base will be left with an impression. I then simply lined up the die to the impression and ran the card base through my die cutting machine once more.

I taped the string ends from the hedgehogs to the backside of the gray panel and trimmed off the excess string. I then adhered the panel to the card front, sandwiching the string between the panel and the card base.

Next, I adhered all of my leaves around the circle windowed opening. Lastly, I finished my card by stamping a sentiment on the card front in black.

To operate the spinner, simply twist the hedgehogs round and round and then let go. For mailing, twist the hedgehogs several times like before then hold them in place with the card folded shut, and then tuck your card into the envelope. When the recipient opens the card the hedgehogs will spin for a fun surprise!!

I hope you enjoyed my card and were inspired to give this fun and easy interactive card technique a try! And if you want to check out more of my projects and/or even see VIDEOS on other spinner and interactive cards I’ve created you can head over to my YouTube channel, blog, or Instagram account

Hello! I’m Channin Pelletier and I live in sunny Arizona with my husband and our two sweet daughters. I’m a long-time stamper and papercrafter. I actually started papercrafting back in junior high by carving my own stamps from erasers to make handmade cards and scrapbook pages. However, over the years, cardmaking has definitely become my most favorite crafty hobby!  It’s difficult for me to nail down my style—I’m a bit chameleon! I love clean and simple designs, coloring critters and flowers, and even constructing interactive cards! But overall I love trying to come up with designs that are unique or unexpected!

I’d love it if you would check out my YouTube channel and blog or follow me on Instagram @channinpelletier!
