We are so excited to host a challenge week to celebrate the launch of our Fall 2020 issue on Friday! We want to get your creativity flowing to get you ready for a new issue full of autumnal inspiration, and our mood board, sketch, colour and recipe challenges hosted by our talented creative team is sure to do just that, plus, give you the chance to win some crafty prizes! Let’s start off the week with a beautiful mood board and an equally beautiful project by our Creative Team member, Nathalie DeSousa!

Hello SCT friends! It’s Nathalie with you today to kick off a week of inspiration and challenges leading to the release of our new Fall issue!  The weather is starting to change here in Canada, and that means we are preparing to receive autumn and all its splendor. So it is only fitting that our challenge today has to do with an amazing autumnal mood board.

I was inspired to pull a bit of inspiration from each of the images on the board to create this layout using the beautiful Clementine collection from Keep It Simple Paper Crafts.

Supplies | Patterned paper, die cuts, cardstock stickers, enamel dots: Clementine Collection from Keep it Simple Paper Crafts; Die cut: Altenew; Digital cut file: JustNick Studio; Adhesive: 3L; Other: Embroidery floss: DMC; Pen: Pentel

The geometric mosaic tile design was a large part of the inspiration for the page. It is such a contrast to the irregular shape of the leaves in the mood board, but together they create the perfect background for the page.

First, I used a cut file from JustNick Studio to create the outline of the leaf on the patterned paper using my Silhouette Cameo. Once cut, I pierced holes around the outside of the cut and hand-stitched the entire outline.  The stitching brings the shape of the leaf to focus and adds texture to the page, just like the one in the mood board. I used papers from the Clementine Collection to back a pre-made die-cut shape from Altenew and then backed the leaf with it.

I choose a rich color patterned paper for the background of the page so that all the details of the leaf and die cut would show nicely. Since the background is graphic and bold, I decided to keep the rest of the page fairly simple.  Using a few pieces of patterned paper, I backed the picture then added it to the page.

The leaves pictured in the mood board also showcase colorful circle shapes, which inspired me to add circle  die cut shapes to embellish the page, and then finish it with some of the Clementine Collection’s enamel dots.

I hope this has inspired you to join in the challenge! Use the images on the mood board as inspiration to create a project of your own. I cannot wait to see all of those lovely colors and textures on your pages!

Happy fall everyone!

~ Nathalie
