Let’s keep the creativity flowing! Sketches are a great way to jump-start the creative process, and each issue we release brings a fresh round of sketches your way! Today, creative team member Mindy Eggen is using two sketches from our summer issue to inspire her card making, and we think you’ll love how she interpreted the sketches!

Welcome, everyone! It’s Mindy here with you today to tickle your creativity with sketches. Do you use sketches when creating cards? Honestly, I rarely do, but after making these cards for you today, I don’t know why I don’t do it more often!

My cards today were inspired by sketches found on page 31 of the Summer 2020 Issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine. One of those is actually a sketch for a scrapbook page that I tweaked to fit a card. That’s the beauty of sketches. You can adjust them any way you need to. They are a diving board to jump-start the creativity.

Supply List: Stamps, Dies, Paper – Lawn Fawn

Both of my cards were created using products from the NEW Fall/Winter Release from Lawn Fawn, as they had the perfect images and colors for today. Fall is my favorite season with the cool weather and beautiful colors and it’s a perfect time to get cracking on Thank You or Grateful cards. Here is the first sketch I chose to create with:

The first card based on the sketch above is very clean and simple, featuring just a couple images from the Let’s Go Nuts stamp set and a sentiment from Thanks Thanks Thanks. I thought the little squirrel throwing up leaves added a nice playful touch.

I also die cut the patterned paper from the Large Stitched Rectangle just to add some subtle detail.

This next sketch was actually a sketch for a scrapbook layout:

When I saw the image, I thought of this adorable little squirrel:

I pulled in a branch from the stamp set A Bug’s Deal so my squirrel had somewhere to sleep.

To pull in the fall theme and a pop of color, I added a few leaves, also from the A Bug’s Deal stamp set.

I hope you enjoyed today’s inspiration! I highly recommend giving sketches a try if you haven’t already. They take a lot of the guesswork out of designing!
