Hello friends! It’s Marcia with you today. I am always amazed at how fast summer comes and goes. I’ve been busy trying to check off one more to-do from my summer bucket list. Those with kids in school are doing some back-to-school shopping. The kids got to have cool clothes, especially for those first day of school pictures. For the first day of school layout I am sharing today, I worked with the FREE bonus cut file September 2016 freebie, an oldie but a goodie.

I love that this cut file has so many different elements. I wanted a cut file that I could use for my background as well as one that I could use in my embellishment clusters to show you how versatile working with cut files can be. Here is my layout created with the Simple Stories Book Fair collection…

Supplies | Simple Stories: Book Fair collection: patterned paper, chipboard stickers, cardstock stickers, adhesive brads, enamel dots, big bits, bits & pieces, journaling bits; Ranger: Barn Door and Peeled Paint Distress Inks; EK Success: Notebook border punch; Scotch 3M tape runner and foam tape; Other: orange hemp twine, paper clips, Silhouette Cameo

How fun is this pencil paper?! I had to use this as my background with the number cut file. I backed my cut file with the ruler paper. I loved how it brought in all the same colors as the pencils at the bottom. I trimmed the paper down 1/4″ on each side and used a notebook border punch along the left side. Then I could mat it on the red Smarty Pants patterned paper.

I had to include an apple on my layout, too. I love this one from the cut file as it has a small heart inside. I cut the apple from the red plaid patterned paper and then cut just the leaf and stem from a green patterned paper. I like to ink the edges of my paper with some Distress Ink to give them more dimension.

There are lots of options for embellishing with the Book Fair collection. I adore this little owl with the big glasses from the cardstock sticker sheet.

I created a fun embellishment cluster of chipboard, stickers, ephemera die cuts, brads, and enamel dots at the bottom of the layout.

Above my photo, I tucked a tag and a school die cut to form another embellishment cluster.
