Hello SCT friends! It’s Meghann Andrew, and I am so excited to be with you on Halloween week—my favorite week of the year! Halloween is my all-time favorite holiday, and I think that will show with the project I’m sharing with you today! We go all out for Halloween, and I wanted to document 10 years’ worth of Halloween memories in one place by creating a mini album! I started this project with an up-cycled magnetic-closure perfume box to house my album, and I could not love it more. Let’s take a look!
This box created the perfect house for my fun accordion mini album, created using the Hey Pumpkin collection from Crate Paper! I made the box look spooky on the outside with just a few easy steps:
I started by painting the floral edges of the box, using washi to mask the sides that I wanted to remain yellow.
While waiting for my paint to dry, I chose a piece of patterned paper to cover the outside, scoring it twice according to the dimensions of the box’s front cover and side spine width.
I used American Crafts’ Sticky Thumb Express Glue to adhere the paper to the box, then inked the edges before putting it aside.
To create my interior pages, I cut two pieces of the same patterned paper to 4.5″ x 6.5″ and adhered them front to back (because my paper was single-sided.) To attach the pages of my accordion mini together, I simply covered both sides of the pages where they met with the Hey Pumpkin wide washi tape. Simple and easy!
Each of my pages features the year in big, bold, black numbers. I cut ten year’s worth of numbers using the Elle’s Studio Large Jane number dies from black cardstock. Now that my base was done, I was ready to get started documenting those Halloween memories!
Embellishing the front of the box around the circular window was so fun using fussy-cut illustrations, sparkly chipboard pieces and stickers to draw attention to my mini album title, found in the clear window.
Upon opening the album, you find the title page, created simply with patterned paper, a label topped with the adorable candy corn alphabet stickers from Elle’s Studio, some washi a few sticker embellishments, and some sequins, enamel dots and puffy stickers for added textures. I added the dates here using the Elle’s Studio Mini Dated stamp, too. You’ll notice washi at the top—that’s another hinge that opens this page upward. Let’s see what’s underneath!
Page one of my album is from my daughter’s first Halloween! Her little pumpkin outfit fit perfectly with the “you’re the pumpkin to my spice” tag that I cut from patterned paper. I also added all of my journaling simply and easily by using digital labels. I simply added the ones I wanted to a page, typed my journaling and printed the entire album’s worth at once!
Flipping through the rest of my album, it’s easy to see how much fun it was to put together, and I cherish having all of these fun, Halloween memories in one place!
You can take a look at the entire finished album in this walk-through video that I created. You’ll see all of the pages, as well as how the album is easily pulled out of the box to view.
