What’s going on in the world of Scrapbook & Cards Today? As per usual, there are many wonderful things in the works. The first news that I’m thrilled to share is our Facebook account hit 100k fans over the weekend!
Woot! Woot! Here are just some of the warm words you shared with us when we announced that we had hit such an important milestone on Facebook:
- “There was never any doubt. Scrapbook & Cards is amazing! Congrats to you!” –Debbie Rollins
- “Congrats + Yippee + WTG + #awesome (p.s. a bit excited for you!)” –Regina Furman
- “CONGRATULATIONS SCT! When you’re the best, they come.” –Dorina Denton
- “C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S! Sending 100,000 cheers your way!” –Tracy Moloney
Speaking of warm words, the overwhelmingly positive response we received from Friday’s blog post filled our hearts! Here is just a small sampling of why it is we love connecting with you day after day on this happy blog:
- “SCT is a terrific magazine…the quality (Paper! Colour!) is what hooked me from day one almost 9 years ago!” –Betty-Ann
- “I rip open the envelope and flip through the pages upon arrival. I then sit and slowly savor every word, every photo . . . ALL OF IT!! (and I love that I can turn the pages – – no digital for this girl!)” –Cheryl Sager
- “I have been a scrapbooker and card maker for years, and subscribed to many magazines, all who went away. I LOVE your magazine, and fall even more in love every time your print issue arrives. To me, the best way to find inspiration is to leaf through my past issues. Please keep publishing your magazine and mailing it to us!” –Cammi Engelhard
- “I love the free cut files and tips/tricks of using products and tools. I also enjoy the "me" time that I take to flip through the pages…sometimes I'm not even reading….just feeling that great paper and sipping my tea. My least favorite part is that I get caught up reading the journalling on scrapbook pages…lol” –D Brown
D Brown has a point. It easy to get caught up in every little detail SCT has to offer. We’re just glad that’s the kind of “least favorite” you have to share. LOL
Thanks to each of you who took time to leave such heartfelt words of encouragement and support. From our hearts! Your words mean so much and have us smiling from ear to ear. :) To show our appreciate and keep the 100k celebration going strong, we’re now giving away not one, but TWO Minc. Foil Applicators from Heidi Swapp! For your chance to win, check out our Facebook page for details.
IN PRINT
On the magazine side of things, we’re busy working on our Spring 2015 issue. It has been such a treat to be able to work with such talent as the pages of the magazine start taking shape.
As you may know, this work now includes collaboration with two new team members and magazine columnists—Jennifer McGuire and Elisha Snow. I’ll let you in on a couple of behind-the-scenes tidbits. Though, I doubt either will surprise you. Jennifer will be bringing you a technique-focused card column. Shocking, I know! But where she is a talented scrapbooker and card maker, some of you may have been wondering which direction she’d be going in for our magazine. And Elisha is going to bring you a variety of basic photography tips and tricks. Again, probably not the most shocking news you’ve heard all week (especially if you watched last night’s Super Bowl), but definitely happy news.
QUESTIONS FOR YOU
With these new additions in mind, I have two questions for you:
- What kind of card-making techniques would you like to see more of in the magazine? Or maybe you’re a scrapbooker and would like to see a specific technique demonstrated on one of Jennifer’s stunning cards that you can then translate to your layouts. Either way, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
- What type of photography inspiration are you hoping to see? Ideas for creative pictures to take? Or is it more about the technique behind those photos?
Yes, it’s a busy time around here, both online and in print. And it’s such a joy to be able to say that we have offerings in both domains. Thank you for being the reason that is. Your desire to have content offered in both ways makes our jobs feel complete, and we’re very grateful to you that we get to do those jobs issue after issue. Can you believe we’re coming up on issue #37?! That means we’ll be hitting the big 4-0 before the year is through. Wow!
Here’s to 4-0 more! Cheers!
~ Megan Hoeppner, Editor-in-Chief
Man anything that Jennifer shares is going to be FABULOUS! but I do love when she shows how to stretch the supplies…stamps, dies etc. she’s such a genius at it!
As to photography: I’d like to see some more hints and tricks for vacation photography. Yeah, the light is best morning and late afternoon, but when I am vacationing I do a LOT of interesting things NOT during the golden hours. How do I get good photos in poor light, crappy weather, when there are a thousand other tourists clogging up the scene.
FANTASTIC news!! WTG SCT!!
I personally, and all of us here in New England, LOVED the results from last Night’s Super Bowl Game. Malcom Butler was in the right place, at the right time, to intercept the football from the Seahawks. Why wouldn’t the Seahawks have called a running play at the 3 yard line? I bet Pete Carroll is regretting this now? Why was Kersey’s catch not ruled an incomplete, since he never had possession of it when his knees hit the ground? Why did at least one of the Seahawks players have to be Ejected from the game, in the last 20 seconds, for unsportsmanlike conduct, for gang fighting on Kronkowski? I LOVE watching Football and can talk all day about last night’s Patriot win! But, let’s get back to the exciting news of Jennifer McGuire joining the SCT Team. I really learn so much from her Blog Posts and she always goes for the long pass (sorry I mean great card completion)!! I am not familiar with Elisha Snow’s work. But, I always have trouble getting crisp inside photographs because there are usually too many distractions to be able to focus in on your subject (i.e.: harsh lighting, too many people in the background moving around, a distracting back drop or no main back drop, a distracting fan from the other team trying to talk untruthful smack about your team, etc.). My outside Super Bowl Champion Rolling Rally photographs will turn out great Tomorrow, even with an additional 8-12″ of snow dumped on us.
So exciting that Jennifer is joining SCT. I have learned a lot from her over the years. I also don’t know Elisha, but will look forward to her photography tips. Thanks for the foil giveaway!
I realize the whole point of many of these blogs is to sell more and new product, so what I am going to say is not going to go with that aim….but I would like to teach my old products new tricks. Jennifer does a great job with that already and I would love to see more and more of that!

I need photography 101. How to take pics and upload to computer. Sorry, I’m just learning what I should know already.
I love SCT! Thanks for all of the inspiration-and I love to see ideas of what to photograph!
I am a card maker and would love to see technique articles. I also love using dies and my Cricut. I don’t have a lot of time in one sitting to do very complicated cards so CAS styles are great, but hard to master. These are just a few things for you to consider for the new column. Thanks! :D
Most important, keep the scrapbook info coming; not just cards.
Jennifer has such out-of-the-box ideas for whatever she has on hand. Keep those tips coming! I’ve learned so much from her blog. I hope she will continue to tell us about all the goodies out there!
As to photography, how about more about using cell phones for editing and printing?
I know they will have lots of great articles for us!!
Congrats to both for joining SCT!
I would like to see how I can stretch the use of my stamps onto my LOs too.
As for photography, I would like to know how to take great pictures inside the home as there is always yellow light indoors.
I have loved Jennifer’s work for a long time now. She keeps it simple yet sophisticated, and her style is mine! I would like to see cards that are detailed, with different folds and design instructions, but FLAT! I am so tired of seeing all these cards with elements hanging off the sides, big fat bows and stacks of thick flowers…..not practical to send in the mail at all!!!
I am anxious to see what Elisha has in store for us, too!
I would like to see a tip each issue on ways to use dies that are out of the box…..I know there are so many different ways to alter and stack them that make them way more useful than what I am doing with them!
But if you didn’t change a thing in the magazine, I would still love it. It is the best scrappy mag EVER…..and I have had subscriptions to every scrapbook mag ever published!!! SCT rocks~!
The days are getting MORE & MORE AWESOME & EXCITING!!!
SO MUCH SUPER TALENT to FILL your magazine with CREATIVITY!!!
I’m mainly a card maker, trying to learn some mixed media techniques. APART from being INSPIRED with new techniques, styles and designs, I fail miserably when it comes to taking photos to showcase my completed cards and would LOVE to LEARN some CLEVER ways to help share what they really look like.
Congratulations to SCT again! What a magnificent milestone. I know it will only continue to grow :-)
I am retired, no kids in the home. At this time in my life, I’m down-sizing, and that is what I am doing with my scrapping as well. I am going from 12×12 to 8.5×11. I would like to see more “letter sized” layouts in your magazine.
As for cards, I have a cricut, a silhouette, loads of embossing folders, and some spellbinders’ dies. I want to know how to use them more. I barely touch them. How can I make some fabulous cards with them?
I would like someone to give Elisha a little pocket camera, and see how she works with it to come up with fabulous photos. Not all of us have the $$$ and skill to use a big nearly-professional camera. How about thinking about us less-talented, not quite so photographically endowed scrappers and help us figure out how to get great shots with cheap cameras?
WOUW WOUW that is such great news, and I´m sure, we´re all going to love everything these two talented ladies will bring us, but if I can make one wish, I would really like to know, HOW to take just decent pictures of our qwork here durinng the wintertime?? I´ve tryed everything I´ve heard of everywhere, and I still never feel my pictures are good this time of year, and I always have to take tons to get just one, that can work, but I´m still not satisfied at all.
Every once in awhile I like to see some of the old retro versions for cards and pages. So far I like to work with any photos that I have taken but am finding I don’t take as many as I used to so rely on others photos.
Can’t await to see more new ideas.
I would love to see ideas for using up those bits of paper that I save (and even the negative space pieces from punches and electronic cut files) Also, I love interactive cards (flip, pop-up, swing) and my new favourite – box cards….so any ideas on these would be wonderful.
For photography I could use some help with outdoor shots – usually mine seem to be too vast, and help with paring down photos to use in scrapbooks – usually I want to include to many photos in my scrapbooks and the books end up being 3 inches thick :)
Thanks for all your great ideas and inspirations
Photography … I would like to see more basic ways to take photos with a “regular” small camera, as opposed to expensive Canon cameras, to name only one :)
For Jennifer … Since I am only doing pages, if she could add a paragraph on how this can be translated into pages.
I am currently trying to learn more about composition and color theory, both of which would be helpful for my cards, scrapbooks, and pictures. Thanks for all the hard work and congrats!
Photography 101 for me, but anything about taking good pictures works. Open for anything, but I’d love to see more water coloring on both cards and scrapbook pages.
Congrats on the FB milestone!!
