“There’s no better place to find scrap inspiration than the pages of SCT! I loved Summer Fullerton’s Vancouver, BC layout on page 69 of the spring issue, with its oversized patchwork heart and abundance of color and pattern. I used it as s starting point for own page, which incorporates a similar heart and bright, happy papers from Amy Tangerine’s Sunshine & Good Times collection.

supplies CARDSTOCK; Bazzill Basics; PATTERNED PAPER, DIE CUTS, METAL CLIP, STAMPS: American Crafts; LETTERS, ENAMEL DOTS: PinkFresh Studio; TAG: Elle’s Studio; ELECTRONIC CUT FILE: Blue Star Design; FONT: Bohemian Typewriter; ADHESIVE: American Crafts

I began by electronically cutting the large patchwork heart (available here) from white cardstock at 11″ wide. Then I used my square punch (which was conveniently just slightly larger than the openings!) on a variety of patterned papers to fill each space in the die cut.

I adhered each square to the back side of the heart, arranging them randomly and using lots of different colors and patterns. I used smaller, more monochromatic patterns because the spaces were fairly small. 6×6 paper pads work wonderfully in projects like these!

After adhering the finished heart to my cardstock base (I used foam adhesive), I positioned the photo with the title below it. Epoxy letters, a stamped tag and a fun metal word clip bring lots of texture and dimension to my page.

So if you’re celebrating NSD by creating, be sure to keep your latest issue of SCT nearby. There are so many amazing projects to get your creative juices flowing, and we’d love to see what it inspires you to create!” ~ Lisa Dickinson

We also have Design Team member Jen Gallacher here with a fun summer card and a challenge!

“Hey, Jen here! I’m LOVING the tropical trend in both home decor and craft products. So when I saw this layered flamingo stamp set from Stampin’ Up! I knew I needed to make a card with it. I stamped the leaf from the “Tropical Chic” stamp set and stamped it all over my green cardstock, randomly moving the stamp as I went.

To create the flamingo scene, I used the “Fabulous Flamingo” stamp set. I stamped the solid part in the new “Flirty Flamingo” ink color. Then I added details with light tan, ink colors. To create the water, I stamped the water lines in a deep, teal blue and then added chalk to color in the water.

The sentiment is stamped with Versamark ink and embossed with bright yellow embossing powder. Don’t these two stamp sets work so well together? A touch of black makes this card a little more dynamic, and I love that. Look for the newest release from Stampin’ Up! coming soon.” ~ Jen Gallacher

Now time for a card challenge! We want you to create a card with the word “thanks” or “thank you” in it.
