“Hello, and Happy International Scrapbook Day!!! The layout that I created as part of today’s celebration was inspired by this beautiful card designed by Laurie Schmidlin. It could be found on page 52 of the Spring 2018 issue.

My starting point was duplicating her gorgeous large butterflies in the same shades of pink, yellow and turquoise. I also loved the touches of gold that she incorporated into her design.

Supplies: CARDSTOCK: Bazzill Basics; PATTERNED PAPER: Pink Paislee, Crate Paper; WASHI TAPE, PUFFY STICKERS, CHIPBOARD ACCENT: Pink Paislee; EPHEMERA: Pink Paislee, American Crafts; STICKER STRIPS: Crate Paper; ENAMEL DOTS: Simple Stories, ADHESIVE: Xyron, Scrapbook Adhesives; BUTTERFLY DIE: Sizzix

From this point on, my design headed in its own direction. I added multiple layers to my butterflies, before topping them with a selection of chipboard hearts, puffy stickers, and sentiment stickers.

I adhered my collage of photos on an angle to add a playful effect, and a gold die cut sentiment became my title. A strip of washi tape, a chipboard flower accent, and a simple journaling block anchored with a strip of patterned paper completed my design. Mini puffy stickers, a couple of mini chipboard hearts, and a trio of enamel dots provided the perfect finishing touch.

Thank you so much for joining me. I wish you all a wonderful day.  Happy Scrapping!” ~ Sheri

……………

Hi friends, happy International Scrapbook Day! I have a new layout to share with you today called HEART YOU featuring some fun techniques and today’s colour challenge!

Supplies: Cardstock: American Crafts; Paint: Vicki Boutin; Thickers, stickers, journaling card, roller stamp: Pink Paislee; Stencil, spray mists, date stamp: Altenew; Modeling paste, gesso: Liquitex; Sewing machine: Brother; Die cut machine: Silhouette Cameo; Hearts cut file: Paige Evans

I started by creating my own patterned paper. To do this I painted stripes of Vicki Boutin acrylic paint onto smooth white cardstock, scraped white paint into the mix, then splashed white and iridescent spray mists on top.

Once the paint dried I die cut lots and lots of different sized and shaped hearts from the painted cardstock. I also die cut the same hearts from a painterly patterned paper (Paper 10 from my first collection with Pink Paislee called Fancy Free). The paint colors were bright and vibrant (just how I like them!) but I felt like they needed to be toned down just a tad and the patterned paper hearts do the trick.

Next, I layered all of the hearts together, starting with the biggest and adding continuously smaller hearts on top. I ended up with 16 hearts and had a few leftover tiny hearts that I can use on a different project. I machined stitched a couple times through each heart to keep them together and then bent up all of the layers for lots of fun dimension.

I chose an aqua textured cardstock background and did some mixed media on the background. First I painted a white acrylic “+” and then added stripes with a stencil and modelling paste to the upper left and bottom right quadrants. Once that dried I painted over it with gesso and used the packaging technique to apply blue and aqua watercolours. I splashed a little more white spray mist and spritzed iridescent mist on top. Then I machine stitched through the painted “+”, using a mix of straight and zigzag stitches.

With the background complete, I quickly finished the layout – I placed the layered hearts over the painted area, machine stitched down each one to attach them in place permanently, and placed tiny heart stickers in the open spots. I created the title “heart you” using a mix of Thickers and machine stitched them in place. I glued my photo onto a colourful journaling card and tucked it into the lower right section then placed a “definitely” sticker on the bottom edge of the photo. I journaled underneath the photo with a pencil and stamped the date below. The last step was adding more roller stamping below the journaling and next to the title.

Thank you for stopping by today! I hope you found something inspiring on this layout that you’d like to try!” ~Paige Evans
