Hello, and welcome back to our blog, where we are continuing our International Scrapbook Day 2020 celebration! Already today, we have issued a PageMaps sketch challenge, a design challenge, and a colour challenge to you. Next up: a scraplift challenge!

Our issues hold so much inspiration, so the next time that you’re stuck for a layout idea, why not find another layout that inspires you to create? As long as you give the original creator credit on their idea, you can take the aspect of the design that inspires you and use it to record your own memories! Our challenge to you is to find an inspiring project from our spring 2020 issue and scraplift it to create your next page! Share your scraplifted project with us using these guidelines:

Challenge Guidelines:

  1. Create a project based on layout, card, pocket page or mini album found in our spring issue and send an image of it to us at ideas@scrapbookandcards.com.
  2. Please put “iNSD scraplift challenge” in your reference line, and in the body of your email, let us know which project on which issue page inspired you!
  3. Please ensure your image is less than 2mb.
  4. You have until May 13th to send in your submission. We will share a selection of today’s challenge submissions on May 15th!

Let’s see what project creative team member Nathalie DeSousa scraplifted to create her newest layout:

“Happy International Scrapbook Day everyone! It’s Nathalie here to celebrate this special day with all of you Scrapbook & Cards Today friends. I hope you are all using the day to document your memories with all the fun challenges we have prepared for you! We love to see what other designers are creating, and many times decide to borrow some of their ideas for a project of our own. So, today, I want to show you how I was inspired by Aurelie Cormier’s “Love & Smiles” layout from the spring 2020 issue to create this page. Let’s take a look at Aurelie’s beautiful layout first:

Here is the layout that I created based off of it:

Supplies | Patterned paper, embellishments, stickers: Simple Stories Garden District collection; Paint: Vicki Boutin Watercolor; INK: Golden; Adhesive: Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L; Font: Times New Roman

Just like in Aurélie’s layout, I started with a patterned paper for the background from the Simple Stories Simple Vintage Garden District collection. Her cascading design has lots of movement that is guided by her mixed media application. I also borrowed this idea, but instead used Vicki Boutin Watercolor markers on my page, as this creates a softer effect on the background.

The original layout uses a small photo and lots of paper layers behind it.  For my page, I am using a larger picture with a white border, but I decided to follow her layering idea for my page, too. This is where working with a single collection helps as all the papers coordinate and it is easier to create layers and embellish the page.

The cascading embellishments on the original page create a lot of movement; I decided to follow the placement of the embellishment clusters throughout Aurelie’s design, using ephemera and stickers from the Simple Vintage Garden District collection.

I replaced all of the wood veneer embellishments on Aurelie’s page with butterflies in my layout, but used foam adhesive from Scrapbook Adhesives behind each wing to add dimension on the page. I loved the texture that the stitching added to the original, so I decided to hand stitch flying trails around the butterflies on my page. A few extra drops of gold ink, and gold thread behind the clusters complete my page.

Merci, Aurelie, for the awesome inspiration!
