Hi crafty friends! It’s Jill Broadbent back on the Scrapbook & Cards Today blog to share a layout inspired by our amazing Inspiration Gallery from the Spring/Summer 2024 Issue. I saw a fun, summery layout called “Fun Times” created and shared by Kelly Michaels, and I was immediately drawn to the design of her creative pairing of a whimsical and free-formed background with a bold grounding of photos and patterned papers.

I used this layout as inspiration for my own layout which uses all products from the 49th and Market Academia Collection.

Supplies | 49th & Market Academia Collection: Patterned Paper, Die Cut Elements, Laser Cut Elements, Washi Tape, Rub-Ons, Dina Wakley Gloss Spray, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L: foam tape and tape runner
I was blown away by the details included in this collection. The patterned papers on their own have so many creative elements to them that make you want to touch the papers to see if the textures are truly printed on.

You can create amazing projects with this collection with minimal effort because of the well-designed elements that include distressing, layers and textures.

I documented my kids’ first day of school photos from this school year. The collection has sheets of beautiful rub ons, so I paired those to mimic the background idea that Kelly had on her layout. I also mixed in elements from the die cut pack to add in more texture and some images that helped play into the back-to-school theme.

I think the locker die cut was my favorite element. I just layered it to the side of the photo of my son who entered Jr. High this fall and has a locker for the very first time. The realistic detail is so fun!

Another stylistic approach I like to take to my layouts is adding layers of patterned papers around my photos to ground them and add visual interest. It was SO easy to do with this collection because the papers were printed with all the detail you see here.

I layered the photos first with pieces of a paper that had the notebook edges, stars, dots, and tape printed on it. It added so many elements but was just a simple paper layer. Then, I matted that on the green grid background and tore the edge. It was that simple!
I tucked die cut frames to the corners and then layered on more of the die cuts. Another simple detail was layering three of the apple die cuts to the corner. I just love the mix of realistic details mixed with the graphic elements in the collection.

Aside from just playing with placement of all the components, this layout is pretty straightforward. Beyond the Academia collection, I only added black splatters using Dina Wakley Gloss Spray.
I love being inspired by other artists who so kindly share their work and creations. I also love working with a collection that makes it quick and fun to create stunning layouts. A win-win all around!
Thanks for stopping by!
