Hello SCT friends! It’s Nathalie with you today with a bit of inspiration and appreciation from our Winter Issue. I am sure we all like to “ooh,” and “ahh” at all of the projects that are published in the magazine. Many times, I leave small paper flags in projects that caught my eye, so that I can revisit them later on. Well, I just loved Betsy Lewitzke’s “Christmas Cuties” layouts on page 69 in the Winter 2020 Issue.

I love the single column of embellishments and the cute picture of the girls. I just love the entire composition of the page. I decided to use her page as inspiration for a layout of my own using the Simple Stories Winter Cottage collection.

Supplies | Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper, die cuts, foam stickers, cardstock stickers, tags, brads, stencil: Winter Cottage Collection by Simple Stories; Adhesive: Foam squares, craft glue:  Scrapbook.com; Art Crayons: Vicki Boutin; Stickles Glaze: Ranger Inc; Embroidery Floss: DMC; Pen: Micron 0.5

First, I had to transform Betsy’s letter-size layout to a 12”x12” format, my personal choice. This meant I had a bit more area to add an extra photo and bring color to the background. I used a bit of Vicki Boutin Art Crayon to add color, then added sparkle to the page using a stencil and Stickles glaze.

My choice was to trim the background by 0.25” around the perimeter, then hand stitch it a bit crookedly to the patterned paper. The rest was all about having fun with the embellishments and layers.

The Winter Cottage collection is just perfect for all Winter documenting, it was so easy to mix and match stickers, die cuts, and tags following the vertical line.

I tried to keep the tags and the trim as in the original layout.  One of the major changes was the addition of a cluster to the bottom right corner of the pictures. I needed to add a cluster in this area to balance the page a bit better.

I love how this turned out. Thank you, Betsy for the inspiration, your layout was just so gorgeous!  Remember to share your work with us—we love to be inspired by you all!
