Keepitreal

Hello SCT friends!  Emily here! This layout about taking my daughter's passport photos for her mission to Germany begged that I use the "Keep It Real" vellum sheet that came in the May Cocoa Daisy kit. Her photos had to be so serious and that's just not in her nature. We'd tried and tried, and this was the one she finally settled on. We had to print them a few times to get the spacing right, so I had this extra sheet lying around. I thought it be funny to use the card and vellum to tell the story that you just can't smile when you're taking a photo for your passport!

Vellum adds a beautiful translucent effect to layouts, but because it's translucent, it's kind of tricky to adhere. One way is to use an adhesive manufactured specifically for vellum, but if you're unable to get your hands one on, there are other ways. Normally, I like to machine stitch vellum, but I'm out of needles at the moment. Here are a few more tips:

Vellum

I cut the piece of vellum from Webster's Pages to fit exactly over my photo block. I adhered them together in three different ways.

Tip1

First I used a mini paper clip from Doodlebug. Super cute.

Then I ran a thin piece of washi tape along the edge to adhere it to the card below it.

Tip3

Finally I stitched a chipboard button from My Mind's Eye, the vellum, the photos, and the base cardstock together.

I also attached some vellum flowers to my design and if you place your adhesive just right, you might have to cut it to size, you can hide the adhesive with that's on the other side, like I did here.

Don't shy away from using vellum, just get creative in how you use it on your page. Remember, you can also machine stitch it!

"Let us walk you through our tidy little herb garden. This is the time of year when our Sage and Mint collection is at its peak. We've got pretty papers in rich corals, soft yellows, bold black and whites, and cool blues that complement our fresh kit quite nicely. Gold foiled foam alphabets play off watercolor paper diecuts, while a tiny grey alphabet fills in all the empty spots! arleigh has designed a versatile (and large) stamp set with plenty of options, including a scribbled circle by our own Ashli Oliver. A chipboard sheet of buttons and banners, as well as a trio of chipboard frames adds dimension. And for the final presentation, we've included labels and tags, a roll of washi tape sporting tiny little arrows, mini paper clips, and an entire yard of ribbon for tying it all up in a bow. Just like the often used herbs after which the May kit is named, Sage and Mint will be a kit you keep coming back to time and time again."  ~  Cocoa Daisy
