Happy NSD Scrapbook and Cards Today readers! It's Nicole and I am very excited to be on the blog to wrap up this special day while sharing share one of my tips for creating a layout.  Keeping in mind my love for patterned paper, my tip for you today is all about paper! With some patterned paper and a few punches or your trimmer, you can create lots of of layers and dimension easily – and quickly! I often pull out my punches when I am short of time, or want to make a simple and quick layout like this one:

Happy

Supplies: Patterned Paper, Chipboard, Alphas (Crate Paper), Epoxy Dots (My Mind’s Eye), Vellum (American Crafts), Pin (Maya Road), Mist (Heidi Swapp)

I have several different sizes of circle punches. If you don’t the same effect can be done with just trimming squares or rectangles on your paper trimmer!

I like to grab a base paper and then a 6×6 paper pad and go crazy cutting/punching different patterns to layer on my page. Using the paper pad takes all the work out of hunting for coordinating papers – I like to punch 2-4 different sizes of shapes from one sheet of paper and layer together in a grid of sorts on my page. The grid helps keep things from getting too busy.

To add a little interest, I add in some vellum, glitter paper and machine stitch the whole thing down to add a little texture, using my Janome sewing machine. The same effect could be done with hand stitching, although it would not be as quick :)

Once you layer your paper on, don’t stop there – many companies have great pre-cut diecut circles/squares that you can add easily to your layered shapes. Think journaling spots, chipboard buttons, and more!

I absolutely cannot live without paper and lately I have been collecting 6×6 paper pads and realize just how versatile they are! Happy {inter} National Scrapbook Day…and I have a little extra surprise for you too.  Keep reading!
