Thinking back to when I first started
scrapbooking in 2002, I remember that my goal
was to simply document my son’s birth and
first year. My thought was this: I have photos
and stuff from the hospital and I’d like to
gather it all together in some sort of album. I
quickly found that there are many more
benefits to this great big world of memory
keeping—the creative challenge, the visual
inspiration from photos and typography, the
storytelling—and the profound impact it can
have in our lives.
One of the most important things I’ve learned
over the past eleven years is that scrapbooking
is an opportunity. It’s an opportunity to go
beyond the basic documentation of who, what,
where, when and why, and expressly
communicate to those we love just how much
they mean to us.
This matters.
This matters.
This matters.
Here’s what I want to say to you right now.
Dude, this is your chance
!
Do it now. Don’t wait.
The time is now to use scrapbooking as a tool
to communicate how much people in your life
mean to you.
Those of us who already love scrapbooking are
blessed with this ready-made foundation to
express our love. How awesome is that? All we
have to do is take advantage of it.

I’m the first to admit that this isn’t always easy. Let’s face it, it’s probably easier
to run some adhesive onto the backs of those Easter pictures and add some
word stickers to the page and call it good. This sort of intimate writing is hard
work. Sometimes it’s not easy to get your words down on the page and it might
even feel scary to share this much of yourself, but I’m here to encourage you
to do just that. It’s so worth it
