True to form, the January Sampler is amazing—with products from Simple Stories, Therm O Web, and Spellbinders. I could not wait to dive in to play! I try not to look at the sneak peeks when they are released on the website because I love the excitement and anticipation of discovering what’s in the Sampler when it arrives.

Supplies | January SCT Sampler, kraft cardstock

Using the hearts stencil, I dry embossed a 3.5” wide vertical panel and adhered it to my page base, and covered the seam with a strip of patterned paper to make it look like the 8.5 x 11-inch page base was pre-embossed on the right-hand side. Did you know you can dry emboss stencils? All you need is a squishy mat to run through your die-cut machine (you may have to add a shim or two of cardstock to get a deep impression from the stencil). I also die-cut the title word and shadow out of the same cardstock as my page base. Both of these techniques—dry embossing and tone-on-tone words, are my favourite ways to add texture and dimension to my pages.

The little embossed word on the banner tail of the die-cut word is so cute and I didn’t adhere the banner tail onto the shadow base to give the title word a little whimsical lift.

The rest of the page is completed with beautiful patterned papers from the Life Captured collection by Simple Stories. Included in the Sampler are random ephemera pieces, but if they do not suit your photos, remember to look at the cut-apart cards for some icons or images that can work as I did with the floral pieces and journaling spots.
