Hello, SCT friends, and happy World Card Making Day to you! Today I have a color challenge for you and specifically, a challenge to use an analogous color scheme on your next card project. Analogous colors are colors that sit next to each other on the color wheel.
What makes them fun to work with is that you can choose either the cool side of the color wheel or the warm side, depending on the mood you are trying to create, and because the colors work in a logical, rainbow progression, they are more likely to create a harmonious feel.
Not only was my card inspired by the warm side of the wheel, but it was also inspired by Canadian mixed media artist Catherine Côté of CeeCee’s Creations. She has a fantastic YouTube channel and after I watched this video, I was inspired to create my card panel using watercolors and her simple technique. All you do is draw lines with a pencil and paint. Using analogous colors and alternating them created a bold and beautiful card panel. This technique is really fun to try, and before you know it, you’ll have all sorts of lovely painted panels for cards!
Here is my color challenge palette for you to use as a jumping-off point today:
I hope you carve out some creative time today to celebrate World Card Making Day and create a warm, analogous color scheme for your next card. Enjoy!
