Happy Magazine Monday!
Did you have a wonderful World Card Making Day? I always love the excitement of the day and seeing what friends all over the world are sharing.
On Saturday, I issued an “Inspired By” challenge using our fall issue, and I shared a card that I created based on one of Paige’s layouts. I had so much fun doing that, that I thought I’d create two more cards inspired by the issue to share with you today!
Our Creative Cards column is HOT with 9 awesome slimline card ideas. Have you tried this size? Before today, I’d made three. They are different but really fun!
Tip: Slimline cards are 3.5” x 8.5”, and they fit in a business-size envelope (which means there’s no additional postage necessary). You can make a card base and a card panel from one sheet of cardstock and still have a little leftover for stamping a sentiment!
This inspiring card by Joe Sysavath is on page 52 of the fall issue. Those gorgeous leaves are simply captivating, so I decided I wanted to make my Susan-version of his card.
I’m basically 0% technique-y, so in lieu of watercoloring my maple leaves, I delved into my cardstock stash and trimmed strips of purple and yellow to create my focal point leaves. I added vellum behind my sentiment like he did and covered the white panel with tone-on-tone leaves. While Joe’s card would be categorized as pretty, my card is more on the graphic-meets-cute level. I was pretty stoked about how it turned out!
Supplies | Cardstock: Bazzill Basics; Patterned paper: American Crafts; Stamps, dies, embossing powder: Simon Says Stamp; Ink: Simon Says Stamp, Stampin’ Up!; Adhesive: Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L and Therm O Web; Other: Vellum
I will admit… I’m pretty obsessed with this next card. I actually shared it in my issue sneak peek at the beginning of last month, so you better bet your sweet bippy I wanted to recreate it in my own way. Mindy Eggen’s card appears on page 54 of Creative Cards.
So, Mindy did a lot of stamping to create her card (gorgeous, right?). I wanted to take her idea and use patterned papers to create the scene instead. I found the perfect papers in two different 6” x 6” pads from Honey Bee Stamps. That ombre paper made the perfect sky! I used some tried and true curvy dies from My Favorite Things to mimic the landscape. I looked for a thanks die to use, but when I couldn’t find one that was the right size, I found a hello that would do the trick. Like Mindy, I die cut the sentiment from holographic cardstock. It looks so cool in person!

Tip: While 6” x 6” patterned papers don’t fit the length of a slimline card, you can outsmart everyone by layering papers like I did!
Now the ball is in YOUR court. Find a project in the fall issue and create something inspired by it! I’d love to see what you create, so be sure to tag @susan.r.opel on Instagram! You could even submit your project for our “Inspired By” WCMD challenge to be entered to win a prize!
Here’s to a wonderful October, my friends!
