………………………
Hello, Scrapbook & Cards Today friends! It’s Becki here to share a layout with you featuring stamping for International Scrapbook Day! I am SO excited to share this layout with you. Truth be told, I’m not a great stamper, but when I saw the gorgeous heart stamp in the Wonders stamp set by Paige Evans and American Crafts, I immediately knew that I had to have it. I wanted to try stitching around the edges of the stamped hearts. Whenever a product inspires me, I run with it. A memory that is documented, especially if it’s documented in a beautiful way, is always a win for me!
Supplies: Wonders collection from Paige Evans and American Crafts: Stamp, banner stickers, 6×8 paper pad, floral ephemera pack, icons ephemera pack, washi tape; Reaching Out Thickers; Distress Oxide Inks: Worn Lipstick, Mustard Seed, Mowed Lawn, Broken China, Seedless Preserves; Carta Bella navy cardstock; White Cardstock; Font: Special Elite (Google Doc); DMC Embroidery Floss Colors: 962, 727, 471, 3848, 3835
The heart stamp is the inspiration for this layout, so that is where I started. I carefully stamped five hearts with Distress Oxide inks in colors that matched the Wonders collection. After stamping it was time for my favorite part of the project, hand stitching. Paige Evans listed colors of DMC embroidery floss in her Instagram stories that coordinated with her Wonders collection. Having those colors on hand made matching colors a breeze.
After stamping the hearts with Distress Oxide, I used a paper piercer to poke the holes for hand stitching. When the hand stitching around the five hearts was done, it was time to pull everything else on the layout together. I found patterned papers from the Wonders 6×8 paper pad that matched the hearts. I chose patterns from the 6×8 paper pad because the scale of the prints is smaller. By using smaller scale patterns, it made the hearts stand out and shine.
I always make sure that I have room for the three elements that are most important to me on every layout; journaling, photo, and title. In the process video of this project, which you can find below, I talked a little bit about photo choice for this project. Photo choice is very important! I want my photos to stand out and be the center of the overall design. I love photos!! I’m guessing that you do too!
After I have those three elements in place, then I have fun embellishing. I wanted to use embellishments that matched the hearts and strips of patterned papers. I chose embellishments from various elements of the Wonders collection as well as fussy cut some butterflies from the 6×8 paper pad. By adding those elements on the strips of patterned paper that are the same color, I was able to add embellishments without overwhelming the design.
This layout turned out just as I hoped it would: beautiful and colorful! Watch me create this page in this process video, found on the SCT YouTube feed:
I can’t wait to try stamping and stitching again. I’ll be on the lookout for more stamps that are perfect for stitching! Thank you for taking time out of your International Scrapbook Day to spend with me here on the Scrapbook & Cards Today blog. I hope you have a wonderful weekend celebrating this amazing hobby we all share. Happy scrapping, my friend!
