Let me show you how I used the cut file and the new Buenos Días collection from Obed Marshall for American Crafts to create my layout.
Supplies | Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned Paper, cardstock stickers, die cuts, puffy stickers, foam stickers, chipboard stickers: American Crafts & Obed Marshall Buenos Días collection; Adhesive: Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L; Pen: American Crafts; Digital Cut File: Scrapbook & Cards Today
Cut files are a great way to kick-start your projects. I love seeing how I can use them beyond their original design. In this case, I chose to downsize the sunburst to about 5” and cut it twice from white cardstock. I backed each piece with papers from the new Buenos Días collection, then attached the cutouts to an 11.25” square white cardstock background. I set them so that they created a large sunburst on the right side of the layout. A bit of foam adhesive adds dimension to the sun rays.
To build the page, I trimmed the excess sunburst rays from the side of the white cardstock, then attached it to a pink cardstock creating a frame around the page. I chose this color to make the details in the photos pop from the page.
I backed the picture of my niece (now a teenager), with a paper from the 6 x 8-inch paper pad, then set it right on top of the circle shapes of the cutout. Then it was all about embellishing, and it was probably one of the easiest and hardest choices I had to make! For the first time, I had so many sentiments and embellishments to choose from that were in Spanish. In case you don’t know, Español is my first language! I was born and raised in Ecuador!
I added a few floral clusters and stars to bring a celebratory feel to the page. The collection comes with small cards where I could write my recuerdos (memories), so it was only fitting that I add my title in Spanish, “TRECE,” or “thirteen” in English.
I hope this has inspired you to use this month’s free cut file on a project of your own! Remember to share your finished projects with us by tagging our account on Instagram or Facebook and using the #sctmagazine hashtag! We love being inspired by your work, too!
Hasta la próxima!

Love this! And already downloaded the cut file and plan to use it today – thank you! I’m wondering if there’s an easy way to do the backing of the cutouts. Can you tell us how you do it?
Margaret, there are many ways to back cutfiles , but in a simple design as this, use the negative piece as a template,. Just add about an 1/8 of an inch on each side so you have paper to stick to the back of the cut out.
Hope that helps
Beautiful layout Nathalie! Your work is stunning. While I don’t have a machine that will do the cut file, this is one that I can freehand, and intend to case. ????
