Hello crafty friends! It’s Nathalie with you today to share a new project featuring one of my favourite techniques, layering. There is something special about building a page piece-by-piece, and slowly bringing the memory to life on your layouts. I was lucky to have 49 & Market’s newest Summer Porch collection to play with for this layout.

Supplies | 49 & Market Summer Porch Collection: patterned paper, 6×8 paper pack, chipboard stickers, die cuts, rub-ons; Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L: tape runner, 3D foam adhesive

As you can see, there are lots of pieces and layers that bring the story of one of our vacations at the beach to life on the page. Let me show you how I built this page from scratch!

I selected the At Sea paper for the base of my layout. I needed the larger pieces to help me anchor everything to the page. In this case, I used a 6 x 8″ paper, rub-ons, and acetate pieces. These set the stage or scene for my photo.

Next, it was time to bring a second layer of embellishments—think of these as set-staging. I picked a few of the Summer Porch frames to help me frame my image, then added the large net laser die cut below the frames to add movement and texture to the page.

Next, it was time to set the picture in place, but not before backing it with a few pieces of ephemera. Then, it was all about set decorating.

I pulled pieces from the ephemera, chipboard pieces, and laser die cuts to create clusters around the page. I made sure to bring a pop of green to the page and create a visual triangle with them.

For the title of this page, I decided to continue layering and used a few Summer Porch Chipboard words for this. I added them on top of the net die cut below the photo. To finish the layout, I sprinkled a few stars and rub-ons around the page. I left space below the photo to add my journaling after I photographed it.

I hope this gives you a closer look at the beautiful 49 & Market Summer Porch Collection and also helps you build a layout using layering techniques. Remember to share what you create with us by tagging the @sctmagazine account on social media!
