Hi, SCT crew! It’s Jess Forster, and I love using the “through the years” storytelling technique, especially for Halloween! With October 31st coming up, I’m excited to document my kids’ Halloween costumes over the years. Have a look:

I am obsessed with the traditional black, orange, and grey colour combinations and bat motifs from the Simple Stories Simple Vintage Scary Stories collection. I decided to create a 12 x 12″ pocket page layout that culls together 6 years of Halloween costumes, ever since my kids could stand on our front porch for pictures. Oh, my heart! How quickly time flies!

When curating your photos, its helpful to store them in one place. I like to add my photos to a “Halloween photo album” on my phone. I resized all the photos and edited them using the same filters in Photoshop. It also helped that my kids were willing participants to pose for these pictures year after year.

I wanted to add depth and texture to my pocket page when creating. Using the Simple Stories Scary Vintage 6×8 paper pad, I cut one 6 x 8-inch paper of two 4 x 6-inch cards and added journaling in one of the 3×4 squares and a photo to the other. I repeated this technique on a bottom layer. I also created a 4×6-inch title card from the 6 x 8-inch paper pad and the Simple Pages pack by adding “Happy Haunting to You”. I embellished it with the awesome stick-on brads. Simple embellishments allow the photos to speak for themselves!

Simple pocket pages can be visually captivating, especially when documenting photos from different periods. Clustering your photos and embellishments can be a great way to add interest, especially like those cute cards from the Simple Stories Simple Vintage Scary Stories collection. It is a great technique to try especially if you have similar photos from one event, year after year. Thanks for reading! Happy (almost) Halloween month!

This makes me happy. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and this helps get me pumped up! Thank you for sharing!
I love this! Thank you.
What a wonderful time we all had at the CCD Cardmaking event. Thank you for putting on this event. Can’t wait for the next one.
