Hello, Scrapbook & Cards Today friends! It’s Marcia Dehn-Nix here today. My friends call me Marcie. I am sharing my first blog post as a member of the 2025 Scrapbook & Cards Today Creative Team! Today, I have a layout to share that showcases my favorite technique— blending cut files and layers on my layout. For my layout, I used the Carta Bella Paris collection, a negative strip cut file I created myself, and a print-and-cut Eiffel Tower file from Echo Park Paper.

Supplies | Carta Bella Paper Paris collection: Patterned paper, chipboard, stickers, die cut ephemera, enamel dots; Carta Bella Paper: Cardstock; Echo Park Paper Eiffel Tower cut file, Negative Strip cut file (my own design), Adhesive; Scotch 3M; Other: hemp twine

My Silhouette Cameo is my favorite tool. I wanted to include a large Eiffel Tower on my layout so you could immediately tell this was a Paris layout. Using a print-and-cut file allowed me to do just that. I tucked it behind my photos like the 4×6 journal cards to create layers.

The negative strip cut file I created myself to showcase my 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ photos of Notre Dame. It’s a cool way to mat your travel photos and make them pop on the page. You can download this cut file for yourself, too!

I created three embellishment clusters to draw the eye across my layout from the Paris title, to the Let’s Explore Paris die cut ephemera, then up to the Notre Dame chipboard piece in the upper left. Mixing stickers, chipboard, and die cut ephemera in your clusters is a great layering technique.
