~ Catherine, Founder & Publisher
I would like to nominate my niece, Robyn Formanek who introduced me to scrapbooking and is working the frontlines not only as a Physical Therapist but training nursing assistants and other staff at their local hospital. She normally works at a clinic as a therapist but recently has worked afternoon shifts to train staff on proper transfers of patients, ambulation and other skills needed to assist Covid 19 clients. I truly feel this is going above and beyond her normal work status and is so deserving of a surprise gift. She loves to scrapbook and our annual scrapbook retreat was postponed until September due to the virus. She is my frontline hero! Thank you so much for recognizing frontline heros!
I would like to nominate my daughter, Jordan Lilley who is on the front line as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nurse in Philadelphia. She works 12 hour shifts & self quarantines off hours to protect her patients & coworkers. She never complains! ( even though until recently she has had to wear the same single use disposable mask for two weeks at a time!)
She loves to “craft” and on her days off makes special cards for her coworkers to send to family & friends.
I’m so very proud of her dedication & thoughtfulness!
My Frontline Hero is a wonderful woman I met and grew to adore at my Primary Care doctor’s office. Amy has been working day and night at DHMC helping with testing, treating patients and also working with a team to find a vaccine for COVID-19.
She has selflessly given her time and compassion with a smile on her face and love in her heart! She has tested positive for this dreadful monster virus and as soon as she recovered she went right back to work! She has a heart as big as Texas and is embarrassed when we tell her she is our hero!
She definitely deserves a special treat but so do many others! I don’t envy you having to choose just 3 Special Hero’s!
Thank you for the chance to bless her with an amazing treat box for her to enjoy in her “down time”! Knowing her she will use it to make cards for her patients and coworkers!
Have a great day and stay safe!
I nominate my niece Elizabeth Diesel. She is working at a large grocery warehouse, making sure we all have the food we need loaded on the trucks and ready for delivery to our local stores.
I have to nominate my daughter Meghan. She is a partime RN working at her hometown hospital in ICU with COVID19 patients. She is also a Mom to two young daughters and is trying to keep them on track with their at home schooling. She is also making home sewn masks for family (her parents and 89 year old grandfather)and friends and mailing them out. She is also making meals when possible and running errands for a homebound older couple in her area. This scrapbook prize would be great for her as she also makes cards when needed for their unit at the hospital. I really don’t know how she does it!! She is a compassionate, caring, giving person!
I nominate my daughter, Brooke Jordan, who works at Mercy Hospital! Although, she has asthma, she continues to work long hours and volunteers to take up the slack when others don’t show up for work or just quite!
It would be a huge blessing for her to win and be able to distress in crafting when things slow down at the hospital.
My frontline hero is my daughter. She is an infection control nurse at one of our local hospitals. She and her team have been working so hard and going way above and beyond what is “normal” not to mention she is pregnant and considered “high-risk” (but is not required to take bedrest for her condition.) She makes me one extremely proud mama.
I would like to nominate my husband Scott who actually introduced me to paper crafts. He is an emergency room RN, but also RN educator. Meaning he has had to educate the medical staff through this ever changing process. He has been through the trenches making sure both patient and staff are safe and protected. E has spent tirelessly time with team members to assure all measures were being meant for each and every staff member, which carries down to each and every patient. He then comes home and insists on doing all shopping for not only our household but my parents household as well. He gets up early to stand in line in search to find essential products for others in need and then goes to work. He is my hero. I am honored to be by his side. Thank you for the opportunity to nominate Scott Surico RN . But also a huge thank you to all frontline hero’s who have been serving our communities 💕 😊 .
I would like to nominate my stepdaughter, Wendy Gelinas. She is s CNA working with covid patients at a retirement home for nuns in Massachusetts USA. Her love for helping others has always been her greatest love, as well as raising 3 great children. She is also an accomplished artist and loves to paint.
My frontline hero is my daughter! She is a nurse in a home for the elderly! She would love to have the time to create!
Also a huge thanks to all other frontline works through this pandemic?
I would like to nominate my friend Erin Peel. She is an amazing NICU nurse. She is one of the most caring, compassionate and professional nurses I know. And not only that in her spare time she’s a scrapbooker and creates beautiful name tags for each of the babies that come to the NICU. Most of the supplies come from her own stockpile. They are amazing creations that add a bit of beauty to an area that can be very scary.
My frontline hero is my dear friend Jenny Meyerson, single mom of 4 and trauma room nurse. Jenny sees a lot of hurt and death, and sometimes, it can really get her down. She’s human after all! But she always gets back up, back to her insanely silly sense of humor, fun and loving ways to celebrate her children, and back to supporting her friends. I am lucky to have her in my life, and so are the people who find themselves in her emergency room. They are getting not only an amazing nurse, but also a kind, and empathetic human being who really cares.
I nominate my daughter! She hadn’t even graduated from her nursing course when she was put to work full time in the rest home she did her training in. She was quite literally thrown in the deep end and had to deal with all the PPE and new guidelines. She graduated during this and graduated with high marks and amazing feedback from her tutors. But because of lockdown we haven’t celebrated her achievements yet. She has 2 young children at home and juggled this crazy life with such amazing spirit – I’m so proud of her. But my biggest reason to be proud of her is she is deaf and even masks don’t defeat her – she has been teaching some of her patients sign language 🥰
I would like to nominate my sister, Ginette – the one and only who introduced me to scrapbooking many moons ago. She is a registered nurse in our hometown where she has worked for the past thirty years or so. From as long as I can remember, and in order to be more availble to her family during the day, she has always worked night shifts. These shifts mean she is one of only two RNs in the hospital. With the threat of COVID-19, she and her colleagues have had to adapt their work environment to prepare themselves for the inevitability of having to protect themselves and others all on their own against this sometimes deadly virus, all while providing excellent care to other non-COVID patients. This adaptation has also trickled down into her personal life as she and her husband both work with the public. In order to protect their family unit, they have also ensured that they practice safety protocols in their home in a very structured way. In so doing, their two sons, both needing special care, have also been part of the process. Ginette has often if not always put others ahead of herself, both at home and at work. This prize would be such a beautiful gift to thank her for everything she has done not only for me, but also for her family, her friends and the community as a whole.
I would like to nominate my daughter , our frontline hero, Rachel Bickley. She is the manager of care at a Long Term Care facility. Rachel and her team has worked tirelessly to ensure that the residents in her care are safe and engaged in activities. Rachel ensures that families are constantly informed about the wellbeing of their loved one, connecting residents to their families with Facetime or Skype as often as time allows. She made over 50 adorable Mothers Day gifts so every mother in her care work up to a special gift for Mothers Day. Rachel also needs to work with families as their loved ones are transitioning to leave this world. Her compassion and kindness is so evident as she cares for all those who are going through possibly one of the most difficult times of their lives. Rachel advocates for family members to be with their loved one during the final stages of their lives. In the routines of the day though, Rachel uses her creativity (and sometimes my craft stash) to find safe materials for her residents to create crafts for their weekly art and craft times. This has become more challenging as all materials which go into the long term card homes need to be sanitized to ensure that no germs are brought into the home. Rachel loves her residents. We should all hope that in our elderly years we have someone to look out for us like Rachel does.
I want to nominate all my colleagues at Ospedali Riuniti Ancona (Italy) for all the hard work we are doing! We are fighting this beast and we will win!
I nominate Sophie Delorme for the work as a physician in a COVID hot hospital. She also volunteered in a nursing home ! Thank you!
I nominate my friend Katie. She is a teacher and has been learning all kinds of new ways to teach her kids without having them in her classroom. She adapts and cares for them and misses them so much! She’s just started scrapbooking so this would be a great pick me up for her!
My dear friend, Carol LeBlanc, is an ICU nurse at Cambridge Health Alliance. She has been working with Covid 19 patients and more every 12 hour shift. She also takes wonderful care of her family and aging parents. She is one of my heroes!
I would like to nominate my 16 year old daughter Maddie. Since schools closed she has picked up a ton of shifts as a CNA at the nursing home she works at in addition to getting straight A’s. She is often working split shifts, with just an hour off between shifts, and typically is up before 6 am to get there. She loves her residents and continues to go to work with a joyful heart to share with them since they cannot have visitor.
I nominate my sisters! I’ll do them one at a time…
Ann Veldhuizen has literally made over 1000 fabric masks at this time to help her community battle the COVID 19 pandemic. She was doing this along with home schooling her two kids and working. She even took the time to video chat with my 4th grader a couple of times with his reading assignment because she knew I was stressed about it!
My sister Cathy Blauhorn has made over 500 fabric face masks for those in need around her community! She is a mom of 3 and has been home schooling her kids plus keeping up with the busy life of a farm wife. Not only has she been making masks, she has also been posting live videos of life tips and inspirational songs to help others feel uplifted and learn something new! She and her kids even brought an accordian to play and sing at the windows of a nursing home and to elderly people around the community. She has also made inspirational pallet signs to place along the highway so people know that they are not alone and there is hope that we all will get through this!
I would like to nominate my friend Barb McNamara who is a telemetry supervisory nurse at Phelps Health and Rolla Technical Center. She helped to set up the first Covid testing site in our area and has been serving on the front lines since the very beginning of this pandemic. She selflessly contributes so much to her community. Her patients are her priority, and the employees she supervises love her. She has a husband and mother living in her home and is an active grandmother as well. That to me is the true measure of service when you must worry about contaminating your family. This amazing lady is a professional photographer and an avid scrapbooker, and I know she would be honored to receive one of these surprise boxes.
I would like to nominate Jason Collins, he is a hero. He has served our country in two wars. He was in the Navy during his first tour of duty. Then in reserves, specializing in special opts and chemical warfare in his second tour when he went to Iraq. He is a local hero in his hometown using his restaurant to donate to so many cause. He donates gift cards, time and takes part in local community needs. They have partnered with Sam’s to distribute food to frontline workers during this time. He is a community hero and puts everyone else first. During a snow storm there was an accident that happen on highway in front of him. He stopped and wrapped one of the guys bleeding everywhere in his coat until ambulance got there. I only know that because he is my dear friend, everyday he is a hero and doesn’t even realize it. He sees a need and helps without a thought. A police officer here was murdered and he gave through his business meals, a place for officers to meet and be together, and gave gift cards for a gift card drive they were doing. I could go on and on. Jason Collins is a frontline hero because he puts himself in a position to help whether it’s feeding frontline workers, giving free kid meals, anyway he can during this time and his life he jumps at the opportunity to help.
I would like to nominate my sister Maritza Galarza who is a registered nurse at North York General Hospital for over 25 years. She works in the emergency department as charge nurse on night shifts. She loves her job so much she has co-workers who are her work family and together they work diligently to keep this Covid-19 pandemic under control. My sister is experienced with this pandemic we are fight because she lived through SARS, again as charge nurse of the emergency department. This is her second round of deadly diseases. To cope with the stress and rough 12-hour nights of witnessing so many patients fight the disease she spends her days off scrapbooking because she finds it relaxing. She is the one who introduced me to scrapbooking and it’s her hobby and passion. I have been trying to get her supplies as a thank you for her frontline work. She deserves it. She is my hero.
Hi SCT!! I’m nominating my young cousin, Karen, who is a nurse at Hanilton General Hospital. She doesn’t think she’s a ‘front line hero‘ b/c she isn’t working directly with CoVid patients. But she works in ‘day surgery’ & has to wear the PPE all the same! From my own experience working in Toronto through SARS I know that alone makes her one of the Heroes! But she does her shifts & more, every day, all the time serving many different patients every single day. She’s just that kind of gentle, caring & giving person. Her spouse is a Border Patrol Officer who is also on the front lines & so they have a double challenge to keep their home safe & secure as they go back & forth diligently & willingly carrying out their job responsibilities amid this pandemic. With young couples like this in our communities I know Our future on the other side of CoVid is going to be bright!
Thanks for this great initiative SCT & partners!! 🌺
I would like to nominate my daughter Christy Gaskell. She manages the PICU at Children’s National in DC and now they are taking adults with covid as they have the bed space. She works nights and then comes home to a few hours of sleep and then works with her 6 year old on schooling. She does all this with a great attitude and a loving heart. I so admire her and am so proud to be her Mom . But any ray of sunshine we can throw her way would brighten her day for sure. Love and good wishes to all.
I nominate my daughter Holly Strachan who is a Respiratory Therapist University Hospital in Denver CO. She has been working in the covid units since this started. Besides working 12 hour shifts at the hospital she and her husband are raising 2 children that they home school. After being in the field for over 20 years she went back to school on line and received her Bachelors degree and graduated with honors while working her regular hospital shifts. I am one very proud mamma.
I nominate my daughter Janice who is dedicated RN at Toronto General Hospital . she wears a mask and shield for more than 12 hours at work and comes home to her 10 years old son and elderly parents and wears a mask at home to protect us. She does all the grocery shopping etc. on her days off. Her dedication at work and home I makes us very proud.
I am nominating my daughter, Chelsea Bingen. She is a nightshift nurse working the med/surg floor at our local hospital. She is so compassionate about her patients. She’s on the frontline, caring and advocating for those with covid19.
When things slow down, she has a file full of items to scrap about this unprecedented pandemic – from newspaper articles, to notes from patients and strangers, to photos of people’s generosity- that she wants to put in a scrapbook. ♡
I nominate my friend and colleague, Sylvia Becerra. She is a Case Management Manager for a substance abuse treatment program serving pregnant women and mothers who are struggling to overcome addiction and sometimes trying to get their lives on track to be able to have their children returned to their care. She is a dedicated worker, still seeing clients in person as well as now navigating some of the teleservices for mental health/addiction support services. She is also an avid papercrafter and I know that receiving a box of goodies from you would really lighten her heart’s energy. thank you for having this honoring of those who are the front line workers keeping services going.
I would like to nominate my daughter Angela Malcolm who is a director at a Nursing Home in Napanee On. She has been working extra long hours as has many to keep everyone safe and well. A great team along with her for this unusual ride… Everyone going the extra mile to keep all residents happy and entertained.
She has a very supportive husband and daughters who also are going the extra mile to help as needed, cleaning, cooking etc., . They have understood beyond measure the need to stay home, to stay safe and stay well on her behalf.
Angela has used her talents to make little treats for her nursing staff with help from her daughters.
At the end of a long day she gets home to sit and have dinner with the family altogether which her husband has prepared. After dinner it is time to go out for a mystery drive with her girls and chat about whatever comes up.
A big high five to all our front line workers 😷
I’d like to nominate my daughter, Michelle Oeding. Michelle is a Physician Assistant at a major county hospital in Minneapolis,MN. She is a hospitalist working directly with covid19 patients. She is married with a 3 year old son. She is the most compassionate person I know. She takes such good care of all her patients. I’m sure she will scrap these unprecedented times for her son’s scrapbook when this all calms down.
My frontline hero is my son, Kenneth. He doesn’t deal with
patients, he deals with equipment. He is a HVAC technician
st St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Shiloh, IL. He is responsible
for keeping the temperature in the hospital at a constant
temperature. Dons all of the protective gear to change
the air filters in the hospital (if they aren’t changed they
could clog and the air wouldn’t be purified). He does
many other related duties – on call whenever there
is a mechanical failure. In the winter he goes out
and does snow removal duties to
keep the staff and patients safe. He’s a year-round
hero. He’s also been on-call for me whenever I
needed groceries – tomorrow will be my first
trip out of the house in two months. The “kids”
have wanted me to stay away from people (at
79 I’m in the high risk area). thanks

My favorite heroine is Major Deborah Greene. She has been delivering food boxes, for The Salvation Army, to clients who are unable to go to the pantry in person, seniors, unemployed and others. Though she is retired, she felt the need to reach out to the community and provide not only food, but a word of encouragement and prayer for those who unexpectedly found themselves unemployed, resources running out and unsure what the next step should be. Major Deborah has been volunteering since the beginning of COVID-19 and plans to continue until there is a need.
I nominate my granddaughter & fellow crafter, Allison Hurt. Allie is an RN, BSN & is in classes earning her Masters in Nursing. She is a frontline nurse in the Medical ICU at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinic. Allie is an amazing woman. I am in awe of my granddaughter literally saving lives.
I nominate my scrapbooking partner Jordann Wright. She is working hard on the frontline. She is a BN in the emergency room of our city, she works 12 hr shifts and many of those shifts have become short staffed due to Covid breakouts, she picks up many extra shifts because of her loyalty and big heart not wanting to leave her coworkers short staffed. She has to leave early to work to get changed and screened , as she cannot enter the ward in her outside cloths nor can she leave the hospital in her potentially infected cloths. She uses her spare time to sew many scrub caps for herself and others she works with. I believe she deserves something nice and something to relx with.
I nominate my mom Kara Quan who is a cardiologist at three hospitals. She designed and modified a COVID ready heart cath rhythm lab to protect patients, staff, and physicians for procedures. She taught and trained all the cath lab staff and doctors how to put on and take off PPE safely for procedures. She helped develop the hospitals’ protocol for patient safety. During all of this “stay at home” time, my mom has been working and on call for COVID hospitals. Then she’d come home and wear a mask and make sure I’m up to date with my distance school learning. She does all the shopping for our family and for my grandma, so no one gets more exposure to risk. Lastly, she taught me to scrapbook, and I started my own handmade greeting card business at age 13. Now I’m 16, and see how much she works. I know that she’d love to have a box of cool scrapbook supplies.
I would like to nominate my best friend and past co-worker Elaine Mello. She and we’re critical care nurses together for at least 25yrs. I retired 3 yrs ago and she is still working in an ICU. She is a leader and mentor to many of the staff and a true and caring person. We were introduced to scrapbooking many years ago and continue to do love it, going to crops together frequently. She has always been there for me, regardless of the day or time and deserves any and all recognition she can get.
I’d love to nominate a truly wonderful person named Jessi Bolin. She has woken up everyday and goes to work where she’s a nurse at the Veterans Hospital here. When friends ask her to check in on loved ones that have been admitted with covid19 she checks on them and sends messages to their families. When she finishes working 12 hour shifts she heads home to her wife and two year old twins, sleeps a few hours then finds the time to play with the kids and build tree houses and playhouses. She supports her wife’s “scrapbook hobby” and does whatever it takes to help Michelle enjoy that time with friends. Jessi is truly the most selfless person I know and when she hugs you know you are loved. I can’t wait until she can hug us all again and we can hug her and say thank you for all that you did and do to make our lives better.
I’d like to nominate my daughter Alyssa. She is working full time as a Surgery Vet Tech during all this bc pet emergencies don’t stop just bc the world slows down. With many vet offices closed or seeing reduced amounts of patients she is pulling 10 hrs plus most days. She commutes 1 hr and 10 mins one way to work 5 days a week. She is also going to college to finish her studies while doing all this (online for now bc of the pandemic)and she is just fixing to be 20. She hasn’t complained once! I’m not sure I could have managed all this pressure plus a pandemic at her age. I am beyond proud of her and her service to animals and their owners!
I would like to nominate my friend Ssndy. She is an EMT here in Calgary, one of the many people who puts their life on the line in a city with the highest % of Covid cases in the province. Her care is two-fold- our physical health and our mental health. When she isn’t on the front lines keeping us safe and raising a family, she is running a popular online scrapbook store here in the city. When the crop that we would have had in May was cancelled, she organized an online one instead. She braved the world of FB videos to bring us updates on new products in the store and organizes online videos to keep us entertained in a hobby that we love. She prefers to stay behind the scenes but puts herself out there because she knows it’s important. She does everything she can to keep up our morale and encourage us to create to keep up our mental health during a time when many of us want to rip out our hair and scream at the walls. . She is a warm, kind and selfless individual and she is near and dear to my heart.
My Frontline Hero is my friend Marinela. She works as a nurse in a busy Nephrology Unit. She really should win the Excellency of Nursing award, because she deserves that. She should also win this amazing prize as she wants to get into creating.
My friend Candace Goossen is a Nephrology Nurse. I would like to nominate Candace because she likes the challenges that comes to her and handles the situation smoothly. The patients like her; she has many stories to share with them which helps the patients pass the time while the patients are on dialysis.
I would like for her to win because it will give her the opportunity to further her talented crafting and pour paintings.
I would like to nominate my sister, Brenda for this fun and amazing prize package! Not only is she a nurse on the front line but her and her 13 year old daughter are sewing face masks for those that she works with!
I would like to nominate my Auntie Pam. She is working on the frontlines, as a nurse, organizing and managing the covid-19 testing centres and hospitals. She is the person who inspired me to become an Registered Nurse. She is a hardworking, caring woman who is currently putting in endless hours during this difficult time. I am always thinking of her and sending her much love!
I’d like to nominate my mom, Joanette. She is an emergency room doctor in NY at the epicenter of the outbreak. She has been working tirelessly with patients through this whole pandemic. There were times when she even had to find her own PPEs to wear to work because there was such a short supply for everyone. She had to live separated from my dad for about 8 weeks because she didn’t want to bring the virus home to him. In the midst of all this, she still found time to make me and other family members our birthday cards. She even managed break her fingers making sure that the cards went into the mail to all of us. She would be so happy to get this prize. It would really make her day.
I nominate Janet Peterson. She is an Radiologist and has had to X-ray almost all the Covid positive patients who come to her hospital because of the cases of pneumonia. We hear about Drs & Nurses, truck drivers, grocery stockers and clerks, but you don‘t hear much about about the medical techs. She is at much risk as the better known medical staff. It used to be that she would run a card making class once a month. But anthem pandemic stopped that. She missed it so much and the pleasure and stress relief it gave her that she started a face book group for her students and now holds a work shop monthly on line. As she is a paper crafter I know that craft surprise would really cheer her up.
I would like to nominate my daughter, Erin. She one of the forgotten front line workers. She is a family therapist who specializes in play therapy with children. She has seen first hand how this major disruption of life has affected children. From the major disruption of their routines , to parental stress, to isolation from their friends. I don’t think people realize how this has had an impact on our mental health. She is amazing!
Hi, I’m Monica and I work nurse in Italy at hemodialysis. We are not heroes, we are people who simply work, but who have always been there. I like to read your comments from your family and I embrace them all. Let’s not forget also those who work in the laboratory, in the pharmacy or those who carry the exams or linen, or those who transport the deceased. There are also them …. and I say thank you because they help us nurses. A big hug to everyone ❤ and we hope that it will work out for the best
My frontline hero is my dear friend Tina. She is a nurse at one of the Italian hospitals more touched from the pandemia, in Modena, Emilia Romagna. She and her team have been working so hard, never stopping. Thank you Tina!!!
Another of my frontline hero is my friend Rosa. She is a nurse in a rest home. She tells me that it’s so hard losing everyday lots of people that during the years they became like grandmas and grandpas…
My frontline heros are all of the people who have always worked and they still doing during this pandemia in groceries and pharmacies. Meanwhile, we’re safe at home they everyday go to work risking their lives to allow the country to live “normally”.
My frontline heros are all of the road hauliers that never stopped and allowed to eat and surviving!!!
My frontline heros are all the doctors, nurses and every singhle person that work in hospital, E.Rs, and health centers in all over the world! You’re not human but SUPER HEROES!!! <3
I would love to nominate my sister in law/bff. Debra Spencer. She is a NICU nurse in Olympia, WA. She had the biggest heart and is always doing crafts with her grandkids and nieces/nephews. Also for many other family members. She is the sweetest person.
I would like to nominate my daughter, a first year deputy sheriff, who is working the front lines in our area. Her job caused her to be exposed to a COVID positive individual in March. She had symptoms which would.not go away, so she needed to leave her post to be tested. She was off for only a few days when her results came back … thankfully NEGATIVE.
She no longer lives at home with her parents, and we miss her and I miss crafting with her… she sparks such wonderful ideas.
This is a hard one! I would like to nominate my whole TEAM! We are getting through this together and although as registered nurses signed up for this career, the extra appreciation is awesome! Our unit was an active outbreak covid unit and protocols were changing rapidly during the first few weeks-sometimes several times a shift! Everyone has been coming to work with such a great attitude and working together so well to keep our patients and each other safe and provide great great care in uncertain times. I would love to win the supplies for the unit to have a card making day to stockpile cards for the unit to give out as needed to each other in times of retirement, grief and celebrations.
Nominating my cousin Korrie. As a health and safety officer she has been working extra hard to ensure all her job sites are safe and continues to adapt to a changing roll. She has gone above and beyond her job description and is constantly trying to learn and do her absolute best in a changing pandemic and developed site safety checklists and patrols like a boss to keep workers on their toes!
I would like to nominate my friend, Kay. She is a different sort of front line worker, as the veterinarian for a large animal shelter in Durham, NC. Shelter work is very hard and can be incredibly stressful and sometimes deeply heartbreaking. It goes on no matter what day it is, or what germs are out there. She helps abused and neglected animals who arrive in her shelter as well as providing the day to day veterinary care for the animals waiting to be adopted. It’s more than a full-time job, but her work doesn’t stop there. She also runs Carolina Pet Rescue (CPR) (www.cpr-nc.org if you’re looking to adopt! :)) as president, veterinarian, and administrator. CPR relies on foster homes all over the Triangle (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill) to care for the animals after they’ve been vetted and triaged by Kay. CPR doesn’t restrict its help to dogs and cats, either. I am one of Kay’s foster caretakers for rats, hamsters, and other rodents, while other fosters care for reptiles, birds, rabbits, small exotics, and of course, dogs and cats. It’s an enormous amount of work on top of her work at the shelter, but Kay has been devoted to caring for and rescuing animals in need for as long as I’ve known her (decades) and long before. She is gentle and compassionate to both the animals in her care and the humans who need her help. She is one of the most intelligent, devoted, and inspiring people I have ever met. We used to attend scrapbooking weekends together as a brief respite, and even then she could be found studying continuing veterinary education articles during breaks to stay on top of developments in her field. Lately she hasn’t had time to get away, and with the pandemic, she’s got even more work on her hands than usual. Thank you for considering recognizing her as a frontline hero. She’s an amazing woman and overall outstanding human.
I’d like to nominate my sister, Jordan. She’s a NICU nurse and has supported several mothers and babies during this time diagnosed with COVID 19. Not only is she helping vulnerable, premature babies and their mothers during this scary pandemic, but she often uses paper crafts, stationery, etc. to help cheer up friends, family, her fellow nurses and patients during this stressful time. To me, she’s a frontline hero every day.
I would like to nominate Robert Nimmo, he is a truck driver and he has been working extra days to help get food and medical supplies to us
He has missed out on a few family things just to get what we need to us.
I would like to nominate Caryn Hough, a physical therapy assistant at a nursing home. Her company did not have proper PPE for staff and they all had to purchase their own.
I would love to nominate my crafty bestie and coworker Arlene Bernardino. We are both nurses and work at the frontlines of ICU and perioperative nursing.
Arlene is a RN who is inspiring , ambitious, well educated and a great mentor in nursing. She also has creative and humorous talents. She looks after her patients with dignity, respect and always takes the time to teach her patients and her patients are always at ease and comfort when cared for by Arlene. She also has positive energy at work and always find ways to teambuild her coworkers ie she uses her creative crafting talents to make photo collages of nurses, plans games and prizes for nurses week.
I nominate her because not only she is an excellent and an ambitious coworker, she is also a great friend!
I would like to nominate my craft buddy and colleague at work, she has been a nurse in ICU and PACU For many years. She is a ray of sunshine at work her positive attitudes and always smiling, brightens our unit. She works hard everyday and her patients loves her because of her caring attitude and Is passionate about being a nurse. She is a hard worker and works at two different hospital. When she’s off our craft group takes time to regroup and craft as we find crafting our way to de stress. She definitely is a frontline hero as she has been deployed to work in one of the most physically and emotionally tough place to work which is in ICU. She is not only a colleague but a great friend, my craft buddy and a great mentor.
I would like to nominate my craft buddy and colleague at work Jurist Rosales-Tran. she has been a nurse in ICU and PACU For many years.
I would like to nominate my daughter Christine Rodriguez, who is an RN working in mental health at a local hospital. She is there for helping everyone cope with the world we now live in. We are in the state of Washington so we have been basically in lockdown since the middle of March. It is taking it’s toll on all of us but especially those who have a struggle with mental health issues even at the best of times. She is a hero to me because besides working in a demanding field she is a single parent and she is the one who is making sure we her parents can stay home and stay safe by being our wheels to get groceries and other essentials.
I would like to nominate my dear heart chosen sister , Debra Woollet. She is a young senior who lives in a residence with very mature seniors – she’s called ‘the kid’. 😁 Right now she’s running herself somewhat ragged looking after all her neighbours on the 2 levels of their wing. She makes & shares food, goes out for their groceries & medications, does coffee runs, walks pets, lends a hand with laundry & chores for them & keeps a running check on how everyone’s doing. By the end of the day she’s pretty tired but she knows that the community is safe & looked after. She’s an amazing little woman – maybe 90 lbs soaking wet ☺️ – & a dyed in the wool hippie soul. She’s gone above & beyond with a big heart, lovely smile, twinkling eyes, dancing feet & perpetual song during this pandemic because she says it’s about being the best neighbour she can be so we’ll all get through this together!! Thanks SCT for letting me tell you about her & many thanks for such a great initiative by you & your partners. 🌷💜✨
My big sister Elaine Urbanowicz is my front-line hero. Elaine has always been a selfless, loving and compassionate big sister, so there is no surprise that she has dedicated her life to being a first responder —- she is a paramedic and is literally stepping into unknown and risky situations every day to make a difference in other’s lives because she cares! She is amazing to me because at a time where we all are trying to stay as far away from any situations that might be high risk, she is helping others out of their risky situations. I’m so thankful for her and all of the paramedics out there!
My frontline hero is my sister Elizabeth. She is an RN.
She has divided her time between two hospitals in our hometown and has worked tirelessly taking care of her patients working days and night shifts (some of them in tandem). Do I need to mention the love she gives to our elderly parents by delivering groceries for them every week? How about the unconditional love she has for her 3 daughters and husband? Yes, I think so.
Although she has graduated fairly recently, she has taken on advanced responsibilities before the pandemic and even more so during. I am bummed that her shifts have caused her to miss a few family events and zoom calls, but am so very proud of what she accomplishes and endures everyday at her job. She deserves all the positive vibes and anything enjoyable, gratifying, and super-excellent that happens to her. I am 100% confident in saying that her smarts and compassion are what make her (and will continue to make her) an outstanding RN and thus this why why she is my frontline hero.
My frontline hero are my ICU collagues Shelliann Black and Andrea Anglin. They face the the critically ill Covid patients everyday and care them diligently with their PPE and many times stay n comfort them. They continue to fight the covid with their tools and collaborate with the ICU team to improve their care. Many times they face end of life of covid pts and have to comfort family via phone conferences. It’s a difficult and challenging time for nurses and Shelli and Andrea are the frontline heros in the Critical care units. Not only are they hardworking and ambitious nurses they are also both my crafty besties! They love their craft hobby as therapy to de-stress on their short days off.
I would like to nominate my daughter, Jodi Currie, who is a Pharmacist. Right now she is not only dealing with a shortened staff because of budget cuts, she has to make sure that herself, her staff, and the public are protected and as safe as possible from this nasty virus. She has to deal with sick people everyday and takes all the precautions necessary to stay healthy. She is a wife and mother of 3 under the age of 6. She must be extra careful for the sake of her family also. She can get stressed so easily but she stays strong for her customers, staff, and family.
I would like to nominate Brandy Bielski a registered nurse in the chemotherapy room. She is a busy mom would works full time looking after patients like they are family. She is an artistic person and she doesn’t get the time to do the things she loves because of her busy schedule. Just prior to Covid she was going to start a special scrapbook for her parents as a gift.
I would like to nominate my husband Bill. He’s an essential worker and works for IDES (Illinois Department of Employment Security). He helps people everyday with their unemployment . He’s my hero!
My frontline hero is my sister in law, Shelley. She is an icu nurse and has worked tirelessly during this time! Shelley is a dedicated professional who always gives of herself. Hopefully we can get back to scrapping together soon!
Thank you for the opportunity.
I would like to nominate my two boys, Henry and Charlie, ages 13 and 11. My husband and I hold three jobs between the both of us. My husband works at Trader Joe’s and is an elected official. I work at the hospital as an X-RAY/CT tech. My boys have been left at home more times than I’d like to admit, by themselves. But they’ve always kept a positive spirit. They’ve been making signs and cards for us to give out and display at our works. It’s uplifting to the soul to have that appreciation. Their kindness gives us all strength to endure the challenges the day holds. They’re sweet, creative kids and I wholeheartedly appreciate the gifts they make. I would like them to have these wonderful tools to see what else their creative minds come up with. I would give my kids the world if they ask, but they’ve been so supportive that they don’t ask for a thing except for our time. Creating with them is always time well spent. As little kids I know they want to help but feel helpless. But they’ve managed to find an outlet which they are helping and uplifting others. Their sweet gestures have touched the hearts of many. I am so blessed to be their mom.
I would like to nominate Susan Surdow. She is a frontline nurse who works in New York. She is very dedicated to her patients and her profession. Thank you for allowing us to recognize these heroes
My frontline hero is my wife, Elizabeth Rossi. She is currently a Registered Nurse working at our local hospital, often directly with COVID patients in these times. She became a nurse later in her working career. After over ten years in Pharmaceutical Technology and three beautiful daughters later, she decided she wanted to make a bigger impact on people’s lives and wanted to help people in our community more. To accomplish this, she decided to go back to school full-time in a 24 month accelerated program to become an RN. She juggled a full time class schedule, assignments, three kids, and a husband :O and did it with a smile and I could tell this career was going to be her passion. After graduation and passing her licensing exam, she started working at our community hospital putting her newly learned skills to work. She tirelessly approaches everyday and shift with a smile and energy that supports her patients and coworkers especially with the elevated stress levels that they are all under in these times. I know that her energy, positive attitude, work ethic and willingness to help builds teamwork within her nursing team bringing a higher level of care to every patient her and her team help. Somehow in the middle of all this, she has maintained her scrap booking hobby and this surprise box would be a great way to show appreciation for all that she does not only for our family but for the community that she works in and the positive impact she makes to patients lives.
Antonella Langdon is the hero I would like to nominate. She is an essential services employee working in a large grocery store on Long Island (NY). She has gone into that store almost every day, facing the fear of the exposure to the virus each time to make sure people can get their groceries. In her generosity and kindness, she has taken on neighborhood shopping so people who are quarantining don’t have to be exposed. She also shops for the community food pantries and acquires gift cards and donations from her employer. I’m so proud to call her my friend!
I want to nominate my daughter, Sandra Hubbard, a nurse in a Neuro/Trauma ICU in Virginia. She not only works full time, but has two boys who need supervision with their on line school work. She is always looking out for others in need. She is truly my hero!
My favorite front line hero would be my son. He is a brand new nurse, he just received his license last year, As a seasoned nurse of 30+ years, I know how trying and stressful this has been on all of us, but I feel especially for the new nurses. He makes his mama proud every day.
My frontline hero is my husband Chris. He works for spectrums as a maintenance supervisor. He and his crew of guys work tirelessly every day to keep people with there internet, phone, and cable services. Without him and others like him people wouldn’t be able to work or do school at home in these troubled times. So I would like to thank the internet providers, electric works, as well as the healthcare, emergency worker and all other essential employees.
I would like to nominate my friend and co-worker Tanya Prokop. She has free pantry in her front yard that she keeps stocked with food and other essentials for ANYONE that needs help. She has been doing this for over a year so right now the need is even greater with so many families out of work and now school is over so kids dont have access to free lunches. She fills up her pantry morning and night and never judged anyone helping themselves to what is available. She even posts on Facebook letting everyone know it is full and there for who needs it. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1917716881814871/permalink/2506361446283742
Her family donates a lot of the food but she also has support from all of us that can give as well. She is the kindest person I 25063the pleasure of knowing.
I would like to nominate my crafting buddy Jurist Tran. She is an RN out of Mississauga & Brampton. She is such a delight to work with. Jurist is a caring & compassionate nurse who has been deployed to help us out here in ICU & CCU. She is a team player always offering help to those that need it. She is a great mentor on the floor sharing her knowledge with her colleagues and she is a bright shining beacon of happiness when she is at work. Always smiling and has a very positive attitude.
When she’s off she crafts to de stress. As everyone knows, Covid -19 is taking its toll on all of us(working and not working) Jurist is definitely one of my frontline heros.
I would like to nominate my crafting buddy Shellian Blackwood. Shellian is an awesome ICU nurse here in Mississauga. Shellian is also a mother who has not been able to be with her daughter since the end of March. Working in a busy ICU looking after patients that have Covid -19 is difficult when you have young children at home. Shelli is finding the balance between work life and home life. At work, she is caring, compassionate, hard working, no nonsense nurse that is there for you if you get in trouble, she is happy and charismatic and a blessing to work with. At home she is a caring compassionate, no nonsense mom who is there 110% for her daughter even during these Covid times when she can not be with her. Shellian uses crafting to de stress from working at the hospital. She is ingenious and an expert in her craft. Shellian is my frontline hero.
I would like to nominate my crafting buddy Arlene Bernardino. Arlene is an RN working on the frontline in the PACU unit at my hospital. She is a well educated and dedicated nurse, a mentor and great teacher to both her colleagues and students. She is a ray of sunshine, always smiling and so helpful when you need it. She is treats everyone she is in contact with, with respect, dignity and a beautiful smile. She is funny and loves to have fun. Arlene is our crafting groups guru when it comes to the Cricut machine. I am so blessed to count her as my friend. Arlene is my frontline hero.
I nominate Megan Hamilton who works in endocrinology, she is super sweet person who loves family.
I would like to nominate my wife Michelle. Michelle is a front line phlebotomists working with Covid plasma! She goes to work at 5am and has so much PPE on it’s hard to breath. She has not gotten to stay home , and has taken on extra responsibility doing weekly grocery shopping for elderly parents and making boardroom bags full of fun crafts for her nieces and nephews so that they can make fun projects….she leaves them on the porch and rings the bell and leaves so as not to have contact. Anyway, my wife loves crafts and this would be a true lift to her tired spirit! Thanks.
I would like to nominate my daughter Allison Weiffenbach as my healthcare hero. She is a 3rd year Dermatology resident at Cleveland Clinic. She is also 36 weeks pregnant with her first child (our second grandchild). She has been devoted to her career in medicine for many years and genuinely loves her chosen field of Dermatology. She has been able to work remotely during the COIVD-19 pandemic, mostly in part to her advanced pregnancy, but she is able to virtually meet with her patients and advise them on a daily basis. She is a true hero in my eyes.
My Healthcare Hero is my good friend Kathy. She has been a nurse for over 50 years. At the age of 76, she has retired from hospital nursing, but still continues to support our profession. She has donated pizza to the ER where she used to work. She has made blankets for co- workers who have come down with Covid. She makes and sends cards to let people know how much she cares about them. She is truly a hero in my eyes.
I would like to nominate my daughter Gillian a med surg nurse who has been in the frontline of the pandemic working in a covid unit . I can not tell you how proud I am of her dedication to all her patients plus she is an avid crafter . Just a footnote one of her patients told her she would be fine because Gillian was her nurse
I would like to nominate my wife, Dr Amy P. Amy is a psychiatrist at a local hospital and works tirelessly at helping those who otherwise are unable to help themselves due to mental illness. Massachusetts has been hit especially hard during the Covid crisis and the Covid ward of her hospital is literally bulging with corona patients who are isolated as well as having their own personal challenges. She decompresses by scrapbooking and crafting after work each day, as well as providing for her family. She is definitely a Front-Line-Hero to all of us!
I would like to nominate my sister Karen. She is a unit coordinator in the Emergency Room department. Even though she isnt a direct patient care staff member. she is required to wear the N95 mask the entire 12 hour shift. She has been working full time until recently when the hospital cut all of our hours. Because we are healthcare workers, it has been hard to stay connected with family as everyone is scared. She hasnt seen her 4 year old grandson in over 2 months. She would be the perfect recipient of the surprise frontline worker package. Thanks so much for doing this for the lucky winners!!
I would like to nominate Trish Charrette. Trish is the secretary for the Quality and Risk Management Department at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. She continues to work without delays throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. She receives and processes compliments and concerns from patients, family members and the community, links patients to the patient advocate, ensures that all legal matters are kept on track, supports the team through activities like organizing Quality of Care Reviews, and provides administrative support to the Patient Safety and Quality of Care Sub-Committee of the Board of Directors.
Her work at this time is integral. The hospital must provide safe, quality care in all circumstances, and Trish contributes to ensuring that focus remains a priority.
Outside of her career, she is always so giving to those around her. She is so thoughtful of her friends and family as well as generous with her time. There is no mistaking when Trish is around, she is the surely to bring a smile to your face as she lites up any room with her enthusiastic personality. I’m so grateful to have her as a close friend.
I would like to nominate my daughter, Susan Campbell for all the hard work she has been doing making masks, headbands & caps for all my co workers at the nsg home that I & my oldest granddaugher (her daughter) work in. Susan was off work for several weeks & so she started sewing up all these items & donating her time & money to do this. She donated masks to a woman’s shelter & a few other places & is now making masks for her own co workers. She also got involved with a group that was making caps, masks & head bands to donate to other frontline workers. I am a full time PSW & my granddaughter is in housekeeping. She drives my granddaughter back & forth to work. I work several shifts short staffed so extra tired when I get home so my daughter does my grocery shopping for me so that I only have to go to work & home again. We have had several residents & a nurse pass from the virus. Susan is now back at work herself but still making masks for others in her time off.
I should of added that Susan is also a volunteer with the homeless helpers charity in our city & has volunteered to organize clothing drives & care packages for the homeless for the last few years. When people have posted they needed help buying groceries she has even gone out & bought milk & lunch supplies or what ever they have asked for & donated the items to them. She is a mother of 3 & has an extra teenager living with them & has the biggest heart around.
Bethanne is an ICU nurse at Monmouth Medical Southern Campus in Lakewood, NJ. Bethanne a mother of a little girl that turned 2 April 4th. She is also a step mother to a non-verbal autistic girl. Bethanne has been on the frontlines working tirelessly to help save lives & bring comfort for her ICU patients. She is just simply unbelievable! I know this has been extra hard because her own step father passed to COVID & she couldn’t even comfort her own mother in person. We are so proud of our hero!
I would like to nominate my husband. He works for a company that makes separate modules for artificial lung ventilation apparatuses. These modules are delivered to a factory in our city and there they completely assemble devices for artificial ventilation of the lungs. My husband has been working daily since the start of the pondemic.

It is so nice to see young people donating their time and talents!!! Thank you SCT for recognizing these heros!!!!

She loves her residents and does everything possibly every day to help with their mental well being. Arranging for video visits with loved ones as much as possible! This has been such a difficult time for us all but we really don’t understand the effects in the front lines!
My sister said it best a few weeks ago when she asked me if I ever thought with the career path that my daughter has chosen that we would fear for her life when she goes to work!
I would like to nominate a dear friend of mine, Karine Brochu. Karine is a mom of two and she is the heart of her family. She is a frontline worker at our local hospital in Sherbrooke, Qc. She works in Food Services, so she not only helps portion the food, she delivers it to patients as well. Some days when she is not delivering to the floors, she is serving the personal and if there are visitors in the cafeteria. There is always cleaning and disinfecting to do in the areas were she works, to keep everything as safe as possible for everyone. Karine works tirelessly and always has a smile on her face. You can always count on her to go above and beyond what is asked. I am grateful for all that she does to help out, especially during these times. I know this is not easy for her, as like me, she has anxiety. She does not let it stop her, and on top of dealing with that, she still makes sure to check in to see how I am doing. One thing is for sure this pandemic has changed us, but there are so many like Karine, who are doing all they can to keep the rest of us safe and I thank her and everyone else!

I am nominating my wife Feigy Z she is a RN worked the front lines in NYC hospital covid unit during the pandemic breakout, during treating patients tirelessly she contacted the virus herself together with a bunch of coworkers including her Nurse manager that unfortunately did not make it and lost her life from Covid. It would greatly help her relax with scarbooking after what she saw the pain that people suffered and the amount of life not being able to save. what an amazing job she did and defiantly would bring a smile to hero like this.
I would like to nominate Elissa (or known as Lissy to everyone) is one of the most kind, caring, compassionate people I know. She is a doctor and has been working the frontlines since the pandemic started. Once she saw and we started learning about the crisis and outbreaks, she stepped up to the lines and started taking extra shifts and going with the changes which were made to her. She not only has been helping patients in the hospital but outside, she has offered help to the community by doing everything she can to help. Her calm and caring ways help everyone to reduce their anxieties. She truly is amazing.
I would like to nominate my friend, Dr. Anne Arbet. She is the kindest and most caring person that I know. She is handling this pandemic with grace and has not complained once about the hours that she has been putting in the last few months. She puts herself in harms way every day she shows up to the hospital to protect her patients and then goes home to her two boys and husband each night. She has not had any time off and has been working every day. Not only do I respect her, but also aspire to be like her and have that compassion for all people.
I’d like to nominate my mom Lea. Lea is a pediatric nurse at the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she normally works in the elective day surgery unit. Since COVID-19, elective surgeries have been postponed so for the last 2 months she’s been floating around the hospital filling in for any position that needs a nurse. She’s worked in at least 5 different units/wards in the last few months which requires an intense amount of training and patience, but does it to protect and help the kids and parents that visit the hospital.
