“On the 9th day of SCT’s 12 Days of Holiday Giving, SCT shared with me….a beautiful card by Susan Opel with a fantastic prize package from our friends at Doodlebug Design and Honey Bee Stamps!”

“Hello dear readers! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you from Salt Lake City, UT!

What a whirlwind this time of year is! Behind the scenes here at SCT, we’ve already begun work on the first issue of 2020. We are so excited to take scrapbooking, card making, and paper crafting into a brand new decade. Lots of exciting things in store for sure so stay tuned!

Today I’d like to share a Christmas card I’ve made to celebrate our 12 Days of Holiday Giving. If you now me, this card is seriously not my normal style. Typically my cards are modern and very colorful, but the elegance of the Yuletide collection from My Mind’s Eye really spoke to me.

The focal point of the card is a journaling card from the MME Yuletide collection. I love the vintage vibe and the tall, tall tree! The card has a thin frame of silver glitter that I adore. I stamped the classic looking sentiment on the back of one of the other journaling cards. I really like how the subtle snowflakes add luster to the sentiment.

In order to give this card a bit more zhuzh, I decided to die cut some pine boughs (from Simon Says Stamp) in the same color as the background I’d chosen to highlight the pine tree. I had stumbled upon a card I made quite some time ago with tone on tone die cuts, and I decided to resurrect that idea!

The day I created this card, I saw the most magnificent mixed media project created by Shari Carroll using traditional Christmas products from the Tim Holtz Idea-ology collection. Shari had added “snow” to some trees, and I decided to try out the Glitter Dust spray from Therm O Web paired with some chunky glitter on my pine green boughs. I made a HUGE mess, but I love how it turned out!

As I went to place the panel on my card base, I noticed that the panel was a tad too short and part of the off-white card base was showing. I decided to make that boo boo work for me and trimmed even more off the panel to let a healthy strip of the card base show.

So there you have it, my friends! I hope you enjoyed my foray into a messy little technique and a style that’s not the norm for me.

Here’s to a fantastic holiday with family and friends, and I wish you the very best in 2020!
