It’s day four of our 12 Days of Holiday Giving! We’ve already seen some wonderful projects—from mini albums to cards, and today we have another to share with you, one that mixes two different formats! Let’s take a look at what design team member Meghann Andrew has for us today, using some fun Bella Blvd products, and don’t miss the fabulous prizes that you can enter to win below!

Hello there, and happy holidays! It’s Meghann Andrew here today with a bright and festive project to share with you! When I have too many photographs to fit on a scrapbook layout, which is often the case with holiday events and gatherings, I pair a traditional layout with a pocket page to make the most of my scrappy real-estate! I love combining these two formats, and as you’ll see by the project I’m sharing with you today, it can be done in a beautiful, coordinated way by using the same collection for both!

The fun and joyful Fa La La collection from Bella Blvd was perfect for recording this holiday memory—crafting holiday decor with my goddaughters and their friends. The bright colours that we were using in our crafting worked perfectly with the colours and icons in the collection. I created an 8-½” x 11” layout and paired it with a Project Life Design J page protector, giving me more space for extra photos, words, and fun embellishments!

I always begin with my layout when I create, choosing my favourite photo from the event to make the largest. The paper garland that my goddaughter was holding in the photo was the basis for using this colourful collection, so I wanted to make that the most important photo. After my paper decisions were made, I added the photo using foam adhesive and surrounded it with embellishment to help it stand out: a large white doily, colourful die cuts, stickers, and enamel.

A large spread like this deserved a large title, and I loved mixing the “crafty” cut file with the puffy stickers from Bella Blvd. This is also a great place to show you how I helped move your eye across both pages, using the blue and white snowflake border. It runs from my layout to my pocket at the same height and helps the transition between pages.

The pocket page gave me the opportunity to add those photos that may not be as perfect as the main photo but still helped to tell the story. It also allowed me to use more of the gorgeous Fa La La collection: especially the cut apart sheet. Three of these pockets, the “magic”, the cute outdoor tree illustration, and the red card with the Christmas tree, were taken directly from this piece of patterned paper and simply embellished with die cuts or enamel. I just love how easy these cut apart sheets make mixing pocket page scrapbooking with traditional layouts.

To keep this side nice and pretty on the surface, but still add my journaling, I used the new Pocket, Frame and Flip-Up metal die from Elle’s Studio to create a flip-up pocket to hide my journaling. This allowed me to use the cute illustration on the front and my journaling below. It also allowed me to continue that pink cardstock across the spread.

The next time you find yourself with a lot of photos from an event, and don’t want to create several layouts to document them, try a layout and pocket page combination! By using the same collection and continuing elements from one side to another, you can create a beautiful double-page spread that you just love, and one that perfectly records a memorable event!

Wishing you and your loved ones happy holidays, friends!
