Day ten already! We have already shared so much inspiration with you during our annual 12 Days of Holiday Giving, but it’s not over yet! Design team member Mindy Eggen is here today to show us how easy it is to create a handmade ornament keepsake—perfect for last-minute gifting! Don’t miss out on our giveaways today at the end of the post—we know you’ll want to re-create Mindy’s project and our giveaways today may help with that!

…………………………

Welcome, everyone! It’s Mindy Eggen here with you today to share a fun handmade ornament. I love creating handmade ornaments—not only can you personalize them, but they hold such sentimental value.

I’m going for more of a non-traditional ornament. Instead of glass/plastic bulbs, my ornament is created from cardstock. I’m using one of my favorite products from the Honey Bee Stamps release, the Farmhouse Tree Builder Stamp and die set. I fell in love with this tree the minute I saw it. It has two layers to it so the base layer is stamped in a light color and the second layer in a slightly darker color. This easily creates a dimensional look to the tree.

Tip: If you are creating this for someone, you could stamp the tree in their favorite colors. I think a pink tree would be absolutely precious!

There is a third layer, which is totally optional, where you can add twinkles to your tree. I heat embossed mine in gold embossing powder from Hero Arts.

The Farmhouse Tree Builder stamp set has many stamps to decorate your tree with ornaments, but I loved the simplistic look and opted to add just a die cut word. The Joy Honey Cut was a perfect fit!

I wanted more sparkle to my tree, so I die cut the Joy Honeycut from Gina K Designs Glitter limited edition cardstock. This cardstock is very sparkly, but with a super smooth finish. To separate the word from the tree, I diecut a shadow layer from vellum, which adds a softness to all the sparkle.

To turn this tree into an ornament, I die cut the tree out using the coordinating die and also die cut four more layers from white cardstock. I wanted to hide the ribbon that I’ll use to hang the ornament, so I attached a several layers together using Scrapbook Adhesives Tape Runner. Then I taped the ribbon down to the back of my tree and added 2 more layers of the tree die cut. In summary, I sandwiched the ribbon between the layers of trees.

This beautiful handmade ornament can hold a special message on the back. These are the types of ornaments that will tell a story for years to come!

I hope you enjoyed today’s inspiration! You can find more from me on my blog, Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube channel!
