Good morning SCT friends! We are on Day 12 of our 12th birthday celebration. It’s been 12 amazing days of inspiration from our team and so many wonderful prizes from our partners. To say we could not be celebrating this birthday without them all is an understatement. What we also recognize is how important you are which is why we love to celebrate our birthday by celebrating our readers. Thank you for 12 amazing years friends. If you are just joining us today, we hope you’ll visit our website to learn more about us and our love of print. We also hope you’ll join this celebration on Day 1 and see all that we’ve shared. If you’ve been here each day, get ready for a big finish! Let’s get to it with design team member Meghann Andrew…
“Hello there, and a big “Happy Birthday” to Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine! It’s Meghann Andrew here with you, to share a fun birthday card that I created with no stamping and no “birthday” sentiment to be found. This means that I used what I already had in my stash and selected elements that alluded to a celebratory event instead of simply using a heavily-themed birthday collection. Purchasing these kinds of “all-purpose” collections, like the Crate Paper Carousel collection that I used today, is a great way to ensure that you use what you have on hand before the next “must-have” collection is released!
Supplies | Patterned paper, stickers, die-cuts, sequins, chipboard and stars: Crate Paper Carousel collection.
On this fun 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card, I started with a pink polka-dot patterned paper for my background. The next element I picked up was the “YAY” die-cut, and I knew this would be a perfect large element to go in the center of the card, and really make it “wow” the recipient.
I treated the “YAY” die-cut like a pocket, and tucked other ticket die-cuts and the yellow patterned paper, cut with a banner edge, underneath the top edge. This gave my card dimension. I cut the bottom off of the pink ticket in the center before adhering to my card front, so that I could adhere the bottom portion under the “YAY” die-cut, making it appear longer than it really was.
I wanted something dimensional to cover the base of the “YAY” die-cut, and the “celebrate today” chipboard banner was perfect for this. The sentiment could be used for a number of different occasions, but really lends itself to a birthday theme!
What better embellishment to add to a birthday-themed card than balloons?
Although they can be used on so many different projects, they really reinforce the birthday-feel of this card. Plus, the beautiful turquoise balloon balances the heaviness of the “celebrate today” banner below. I added the balloon sticker with dimensional adhesive before finishing off my card with groupings of layered pom-pom shaped stickers and sequins, and star stickers and a blue sequin star.
Thanks for stopping by the SCT blog today for the final day of our celebration! Remember to look for ways to stretch your “every day” collections to make them work for what you need to create!
