Hello SCT fans! It’s Lisa Dickinson and I’m happy to be here today for the celebration of SCT’s 12th birthday! Birthdays are one of my favorite occasions to document because they are the perfect place to incorporate lots color and pattern. What could be more fun?!

For this layout, I wanted to commemorate our sweet dog’s birthday. My photos weren’t particularly colorful, so I wanted to be sure and get a big splash of color on the page in other ways. To begin, I repeated the word “HAPPY” (typed in Arial Black font) and cut out the letters from a sheet of white cardstock on my Cameo.

Then I proceeded to fill each letter with a small square of patterned paper, adhering them on the backside of the die-cut cardstock. I chose papers from Echo Park’s Happy Birthday Boy and Happy Birthday Girl collections, which both have an assortment of festive party patterns.

Once the letters were filled with colors, I trimmed down the white cardstock to 11.75″ square and mounted it on a full sheet of
12×12 aqua cardstock. Then I machine-stitched around the outer edge to secure everything together.

Once I positioned my photos (which are each approximately 3.75″x5.25″) and adhered them with foam adhesive, I die-cut the word “birthday” from aqua cardstock using the free font Strawberry Blossom. I selected this font for its casual, handwritten look to help balance all the blockiness of the “HAPPY” font. I adhered the title with foam adhesive at the bottom right and then placed my journaling below it.

Since the page already has a good dose of color and pattern, my embellishments didn’t need to be too extravagant. I chose a few stickers (also from the Echo Park birthday collections), accented with buttons and arranged a cluster to the left of the title and another at the top right edge of the page.

As a final touch, I added a crown sticker to adorn our doggy’s head – because birthday pages always need a bit of whimsy!
