Hello friends, my name is Chari Moss from MossyMade and today I am sharing a card using some new summer Lawn Fawn products and lots of bright ink blending for the background. Creating ink blended backgrounds is one of my favorite things to do on cards. It’s always magical to me when you take a white piece of paper and create a beautiful colored background using only ink. It’s also a fantastic way to create lots of depth on a card with nothing but color!

One little fact about me is I really like to plan a card layout before I start. I do this by simply stamping my images and sentiment out on a scrap piece of cardstock, cut to size, to make sure the placement and spacing work well. For this card that “stamp sketch” was an important factor since I did some die cutting on the background before adding my sentiment and images. I wanted to be sure my stars did not overlap the sentiments or the images so I used the sketch as a guide. Because I like to stamp my sentiments after I do my inking, I used my MISTI stamping tool to stamp the sentiment with jellyfish ink. This allowed me to see where the sentiment would fall so I could place my Just Stitching Stars die cuts around the center without overlapping the central elements of the card.

When ink blending I like to start with my lightest color first. For this card that was Squeezed Lemonade and Scattered Straw distress inks in the center. Then I worked my way out from the yellow with Dried Marigold, Worn Lipstick, and finally Picked Raspberry at the outermost edges and corners. After blending, I did my final die cutting with the Outside-In stitched rectangle die to give the panel a finished edge. I added splatters of white metallic watercolor over the blending for some shine and texture and I also stamped some small stars in gold ink.

After all the blending and splattering it was time to stamp my sentiment in a crisp black ink. Since I used my MISTI stamping tool the first time I could easily stamp the sentiment in black right over top of the jellyfish ink. I also stamped out my images from the All The Clouds stamp set with Jet Black ink and colored them with Copic markers. I used the coordinating dies to cut them out giving that nice bright white border around the images so they would really pop off the colorful background.

My bright and colorful panel is mounted to a white card base with foam tape so it has dimension, I simply love this effect.  I also popped up the images with foam adhesive as well. With all the shimmer and shine on my background I did not want the images to appear dull so I finished it off by adding a light layer of glitter over the rainbow with my glitter pen

I encourage you to get out all those beautiful inks you have collected and play! Experiment with different color combos and ink brands to see what kind of beautiful backgrounds you can create. Add in other elements like watercolor splatters or inking through stencils for even more looks.  Sometimes the best backgrounds are the unplanned ones!
