Hello, friends! It’s Karlla Dauer here, and I’m so glad to share this project with you. I love working with sketches—they are incredibly inspiring. For this project, I chose this incredible Spring/Summer 2025 Issue sketch to begin designing my page:

It’s even more incredible with the Fun Times collection from Simple Stories. Bright colors, dimension, and lots of details, just the way we love them, right?

Supplies | Simple Stories Fun Times collection: collection kit, cardstock stickers, ephemera, enamel dots; Simple Stories cardstock: ColorVibe Teal; Therm O Web: iCraft 3D foam tape; Pink & Main: Easy Tear Tape; Other: Tombow Mono Aqua Liquid Glue
Freehand, I created the waves by layering papers on both the top and bottom. And the stitched detail on the edges gave it a beautiful finish. I wanted something extremely cheerful, and mixing the prints from the collection helped bring that feeling to the layout. Don’t be afraid to mix prints!

The teal cardstock helped highlight the patterns chosen for the waves and made the center more delicate to add embellishments. Balance is important, and a neutral cardstock is perfect for this.

Why one title when we can use several? I chose to play with the words “Fun Times, Smile, and YAY.” I loved the result. I added the star ephemera, which helped make the layout more playful.

On the sketch, there are small journaling groups next to the photos. What helps me at this point are the short phrases and words contained in the cardstock stickers from the Simple Stories collections. I love the effect, and it helps me when handwriting isn’t my thing. And they’re always a lot of fun.

I finished with some beautiful embellishments of ephemera, cardstock stickers, and enamel dots. I’m a huge fan of foam tape. The dimension it adds gives this layout a special touch. I love that popping effect!
I had a lot of fun creating this project. To see more details and the process of creating this layout, head over to SCT Magazine’s Instagram Feed. I can’t wait to see how our sketches inspire you! See you next time!
